PAM 104: Open 6 or closed 6?
From the pictures on Panerai's site the PAM 104 seems to have a closed 6.
From images from other sources it seems to have a open 6. Can someone clarify this matter. TIA. |

Different year and series, maybe? That's interesting though.

I think it's clearly that one is close and another is open 6.

All the PAM's I remember seeing in person have had open 6's. Interesting
UPDATE: I did a little research and found this on a Panerai Blog: "The simple/short answer, with only a few exceptions, is that the “open 6” is representative of Historical Pams [112, 111, et al], whereas the “closed 6” is representative of Contemporary Pams [104, 123 et al]. Furthermore, the Historicals are open, we presume, because of the early usage of the sandwich dial that had actual "cut outs" to allow the luminous material to be visible. The 113 and other white dials are one exception to the Historical/Contemporary rule—there is not historical precedence for a white dial, and therefore we presume they all use the “closed 6.” With a little further research it seems as though 2006 was the last year of the open 6 on the PAM 104. I hope this helps but then again I am not an expert on Pam. Sit tight though, I'm sure the experts will chime in Last edited by djhiram; 11 September 2009 at 04:21 PM.. Reason: Update post |

After the I series, which means J onwards, the 6 on the 104 has been changed from open to closed. I have seen it up close and personal.
As for the reasons, well, I am no expert on that. But personally, the open 6 looks better. Hope this helps. Last edited by flickserve; 11 September 2009 at 05:31 PM.. Reason: Added Pic |

I am no expert but AFAIK, Panerai uses the alphabets for each Calendar year. I being 2006. But normally, there is a delay in the release to the market. So for the early part of 2009, it is the K series that is around the market. It is only this month that we see L series watches available.
Hope this helps. |
