Rolex SD 43 new buyer...grey or AD

Have only started "collecting" swiss watches but want to add a rolex SD 43 to my omega and 2 breitlings.

I visited my AD and they said it could be a few weeks to months but nothing more that. I bought a tudor pelagos 42 at the rolex AD the same day that I visited them for the first time.

A few days later they texted me saying they will be in touch when they have something that is what im might be interested in. I told them sub, no date sub and SD 43 and possibly a deepsea. They didnt have a deepsea to try on but I have 2 large watches, omega sm chronograph and avenger seawolf so I think I could probably swing it but know for sure Id be thrilled with a sub or sd 43. I plan on both eventually.

I have seen a couple SD 43 from very reputable grey market dealers with boxes papers etc with most of the warranty left and great shape (basically brand new) for same price as AD price.

Should I wait for AD to get back to me or just get it grey. Im in no real hurry but I dont want to be waiting for a year and still not knowing. I visited the AD only 2 weeks ago so its not exactly been any length of time...

Thanks I wont buy sub grey as the prices for anything in great shape is far above msrp vs sd 43 where the grey market prices arent nearly as inflated.

If your wait is only a short one then just wait for the AD. You’ll always be able to buy grey but how long you wait is a tough one

Shouldn’t take too long to get an SD43 from an AD - mine took only a few weeks.

I would wait for the AD, like others said the SD43 or Deepsea shouldn’t take so long.

Would always wait for the AD. That way you have some purchase history to get the Sub you want as well or something else down the line.

I would give it a few more weeks and then I would go into the AD and follow up. Have a conversation with the SA and get a feel for if and when one may show up. If the AD still leaves you with no knowledge or indication of when you will receive the watch then I would go to one of our Trusted Sellers. I own the SD43 and think it is a great watch. For me, it is a Submariner date for people with a larger wrist and you get a great dial and red text. I also own the Submariner-C ND 124060. That one get the most wrist time and if I had to go one and done it would be the one. Good luck and keep us posted.

Shouldn't be too hard to get the SD43 from the AD. I'd wait a month tops, till mid-July. Summer's coming.

I own a PO, Seawolf and SD43 myself. If you're into big divers, you'll love the SD43. The Sub is a great alternative although slightly less "special". I wear my TT Sub41 regularly.

Personally I don’t play the AD games/BS, don’t need the “experience” that lasts 30, 40, 50 minutes at the AD, can’t see my name or anyone else’s on the card anymore.
And in this scenario, ESPECIALLY since you can basically get a brand new one at msrp, with warranty, going grey, I’d have it tomorrow.

If I were in your situation, I’d wait until you confirmed they’ve received the next shipment, and if it’s not in there….id get one from a trusted seller the next day.
Time vs money for me personally.

The SD 43 in the few minutes I tried it wore much smaller than my sm chronograph and way smaller than my avenger seawolf both of which I love. Have about 7.25 inch wrist.
.any idea how the deepsea wears vs the seawof ? On paper the seawolf is about same thickness but bigger in every other dimension by a bit but as you know numbers don't always tell fit.

If the wait is not long, buy new from an AD. Grey market sells used watches which somebody else bought new and wore. Many are touched up to look "unworn." Remember only ADs can sell new Rolex.

You’ll most likely have the watch for a lifetime. A few months wait to get it for retail at an AD is inconsequential. The buying experience and the knowledge that your watch just came in from Switzerland is worth waiting for. I’ve bought gray and retail in the past. Much more satisfying getting it retail.

Wait for the AD, don’t get caught up in a narrative of artificial urgency. Keep reminding yourself you’re in no hurry. There’s nothing quite like that new watch smell.

You just told them 2 weeks ago. I'd wait and get it from the AD. SD43 should be easy to get and will help pave the way for a sub.

If you buy SD43 grey then the AD calls and you pass, it'll make your trip to sub-land that much harder.

Just wait and buy from your AD. Wait times for an SD43 are relatively short. If they said it would many months or years, then sure, go grey.

Also, be super specific about what you want. You don’t want them calling you with anything other than the exact watch you want. You’re playing a dangerous game giving them options.

Virtually the same price - Therefore AD only - because the warranty on the new watch is ironclad - buying Grey is fine, but just wait until the watch breaks or doesn’t work and then fingers get pointed……..

Sub date or no date: you need to wait
Sd43: can be purchased from AD in relative short time
Deepsea: especially black nowadays is walk in

Thanks for the responses and decided to wait. I went from zero nice watches to four in like 7 months all watches that I love and never thought I'd be in a position to afford easily so no rush at all. Still in love with them so really lately haven't been "obsessively " thinking about it

I have a seawofl as well. Have the omega sm chronogrpah another larger watch. When tired sd43 f definitely let smaller than the omega sm chrono for sure.

Others are suoeroocean kn 42 and pelagos 42. So nit small watches for me though j only have a 7.25 inch wrist
