Slowing, slowing, gone.

Another 3230 failure thread.

My Air-King 126900 (December 2022) kept amazingly accurate time until spring 2024. During those 16-17 months, my AK gained a couple seconds per month. I compared it to my iPhone.

A couple months ago I noticed it was slowing down. After another couple weeks it was losing about 17 seconds per day.

My AD sent it to RSC. After it’s service a few weeks ago it is gaining about one second per week.

As usual, no detailed work order from RSC.

Whatever the problem with the 3230, as evidenced in many threads here, it claimed another victim.

Here’s hoping the RSC fix is permanent.

Everything is fine until the moment it's not.

Sorry your watch got the sickness.

I had a similar situation in 2021 and it was serviced under warranty and has been +/- 2 spd since. Good luck!

I have had several with the issue. Sent a couple in a year-ish ago for service. Those are still fine. I just want to know the RSC fix is permanent - only time will tell that.

My BLRO went in to the RSC for erratic timekeeping at about the 2 year mark, 3+ years later it’s still fine.

Hope they get it back to you quickly. Mine went in for a similar service and was back in just under a month.

Mine came back in December and was running slow like yours. It's perfoming great since its return and long may it continue.

Hopefully Rolex is actually repairing the problem, not just kicking the issue down the road.

You're lucky yours came back so quickly - mine went in this past April 11th for the same issue, and I've yet to received it back.

I was pleasantly surprised, especially given some of the time frames I’ve seen on here. Hopefully yours is back soon.

Neither - I took it to The Rolex Boutique in the Short Hills, NJ being they have an RSC on premises and I'm only ~40min away.

Could it merely be an issue of being persistently magnetized?

To those who encountered this problem with a 32xx movement, did the watch receive a complete maintenance service or only the particular issue was addressed?

I just sent my explorer in for the same issue. They did not specify the work done, but was under warranty.

Picking it up next week.

I brought my GMT Meteorite in for running very slow all of the sudden and they fixed it by doing a service under warranty. They don’t specify what work was done. After more than a year it still runs perfectly. Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

My local independent watchmaker is Rolex certified, originally from Germany, and has been working on Patek and Rolex since 1985. He tells me the new movements "aren't what they used to be". Besides being unnecessarily difficult (relatively speaking) to work on - a departure from the original movement architecture - It seems they go wrong much more often than previous 31xx movements - according to him at least.

I never really thought much of it, perhaps because I'm a 5 digit collector and have only had a few 6 digit pieces. Seeing these threads more and more makes me think his comments aren't hyperbole.

It's guys like you that keep Rolex on its toes and I'm glad that you're doing that. I would probably not even notice what was going on with my watch the way you do with yours. I usually switch watches at the very least every two days so I don't do anything more than get them out of the safe and set them and wind them and wear them for a day or two and then exchange them for another one so I don't have the extended time frame to keep track of the gain or loss so I'm glad you're doing it keeping Rolex on its toes so that they can continue to produce quality watches that keep excellent time, thank you

Is there any transparency whatsoever on the cause / remedy. Rhetorical, I know there isn’t…

But on a serious note, is there any manufacturing date (even if approximate) after which we aren’t seeing issues? Any remedy would be utilized in manufacturing unless the defect / issue rate was vanishingly small (which it doesn’t appear to be)?

If there is a date after which no issues, but with sufficient time AFTER that date (ie cannot be “yesterday”) then we can assume, with some confidence, a remedy has been found…

I don't have hard data or inside information but I have been following this issue closely, and my understanding is that there is no evidence that the issue has been fixed in more recent releases. Our resident watchmaker, Bas, at one point said that he has seen fewer 32XX repairs, but it has been a few months since his observation, and I don't know of any confirmation of that possible fix.

I just sent it in for warranty service. As far as I know, that's all that was done. No paperwork from Rolex as usual.

Interesting insights

One thing we need to be mindful of, is inadvertently making sweeping generalisations.
To this point, i would like to note that i currently have two 6 digit watches from 2011 and 2015 which have 31xx movements and have proudly owned an awsome 6 digit from 2001 with a 31xx movement.
Not all 6 digit Rolex watches have a 32xx movement
