Please help!

I have 2 subs one date that's a 2018 model and a no date from 98/99 which I wear the most, since I'm retired I don't care what day it is.
I was working a trade for my sub date for a blue Blancpain 50 fathoms with the the canvas strap,I know its 40mm vs 45mm but I'm 5ft 10 in and 165 lbs so I'm bigger than lots of men.
My logic is if Pussy Galore in Goldfinger wore a GMT and she is small compared to a big MN farm girl like me.....45mm will not be a problem size wise. I don't think I've had on a dress since my last wedding or funeral.
I don't care about resale value and all that.....just so long as it looks good.

I would always aim to try it on first. Watches don't always wear predictably based on size alone.

The only 45 mm watches I can wear are by Seiko, as they seem to have magical proportions. I think you need to find one to try on. Personally, I’d rather keep the Sub.

If you can, get the new 42mm. It wears very similar to a Sub

Try it on first, size does not matter , the fit and look is most important.
Enjoy your retirement!

Cheers,

Not sure it’s clear… what do you need help with? Sounds like you know what you want.

FWIW, I’m bigger than that and have 7.5” wrists, which is large by TRF standards. And my 42mm Seamaster is as big as I’d ever want to wear. I could probably rock a 44mm Panerai, but I prefer the size of my 40mm Sub and GMT. At the other end of the spectrum, I wouldn’t wear a 36.

This. I really like the new titanium blue 42mm.

Go for it. Size isn’t always helpful. I’ve got a 38mm GP and 42mm Chopard that wear similarly. The wide bezel on newer Subs make it wear larger than their dimensions b

People on the internet often say that the Submariner wears larger than it is. For example, I’ve seen lots of folks online say it wears the same as a 42mm Seamaster. I think Tim Masso started that nonsense. But I have both and wearing the Seamaster is like wearing a brick by comparison. The Seamaster is bigger, thicker, and heavier in every way.

To be fair, I’ve also read that the Submariner bezel makes it look smaller than it is. That’s also nonsense.

You’re my height and I’ve got about 20 lbs on you. I’m sure you can pull off any watch you want to wear. Go for it.

Definitely sell the Sub with Date for $10K+, get the pre-owned Fifty Fathoms for $8K, and then you walk away with a great watch and have some extra cash in your pocket…….

Another vote for the new 42mm Titanium. I tried the blue one on a couple days ago and it was gorgeous.

45 mm FF wears big!
I have 6.8 in wrists (yeah not big)
My PAM243J at 44 mm is much more wearable than the FF.
I sold my FF after a few weeks as it looked like I was wearing a small plate on my wrist.
Id consider the 42 mm if I were you.

Agreed to definitely try it on first. They all wear different.

I’m a 5’8” woman but my wrists are small. I don’t like the feeling of larger sports watches hanging over my wrist. My husband’s Sub and GMT don’t look good, and don’t feel good on my wrist. 36mm is pushing it for me, and yet the Daytona looks and feels good. A sales lady at the local watch shop, however, easily wears the new Milgauss. So many women here have larger watches that look great on them.

You had me at this sentence. Bravo.

As for the trade, impossible to say without knowing more specifics, but I always think about trades this way. If the worst case scenario happens and you hate it, what kind of position are you in to reverse the trade?

If you can live with the answer, then it passes the first level of scrutiny. Good luck,

My petite MN farm girl rocks a Sub on a RubberB strap. I want to add a Blancpain 50 Fathoms after ditching my DSSD JC. Best of luck. Pics when it happens!
