Day-Date shopping

In the market for a DayDate, one reference I do not own currently...
Went into W&W thinking the Blue Ombre 40mm on white gold would be my favorite combination, however left being stunned by the green ombre/gold combo, yet as with any watch decided to make the final decision after some wrist time...

Fast forward and the AD received both dials albeit with diamond bezels and told me to come in and have a look, although I will eventually purchase the fluted variant. However this gave me the opportunity to see the dials in the 'flesh' and I was able to check out a couple of other interesting variations, one of which i have really taken a liking to

Green ombre on yellow gold - as I had previously thought this was a stunning combo and there is something with green dials that really appeals to me, plus the gold roman numerals really stand out on the dial..would also have a matching watch with the wife

Blue ombre on white gold - on wrist this did not tick all the boxes for me, funny thing is in pics it actually looks better to me than the green ombre, but not on wrist for me although the dial is beautiful...also in certain light and maybe can be seen by my pics, the lower numerals were very hard to read in the dark blue sections of the dial which would be a hindrance....

Slate Ombre on rose gold....this dial was incredible, really had a presence about it, actually prefered it to the green and blue...super classy....issue for me here is the rose gold, not quite sure I could pull it off, but that dial is fantastic....

Olive green on rose gold....given how much I loved the Slate dial, the olive green did not stand a chance although I do like a green dial, plus the whole rose gold thing, but I can see why this reference has gained such a following...

Meteorite baguettes on platinum....would not personally buy a platinum watch as I see more value in buying a white and yellow gold watch for the price of one platinum but that's just me....however this gave me a chance to check out the dial and this was a winner for me....I think meteorite dials may not picture well but in person they are so very special looking and although I'm not a fan personally of diamond bezels I do like a diamond dial, so this was the clear winner for me out of all I tried and I left knowing that I should have one meteorite in my collection someday...

Would like to give a special shout out to my buddy aka the sales rep as he took the time to go through all of these watches knowing full well that if I purchase one it will be from another country next door as that will save me 8 to 12k USD, but he still gave me the time and we always have a blast hanging out....

Sorry for the long post and equally sorry for the pic intensive thread, but it may help out others with the same predicament when choosing one of these beauties

Beautiful watches, my personal favourites would be the WG blue ombre dial with roman numerals and the WG meteorite…

I would have said the blue ombre, but after seeing the Slate Ombre on rose gold, I'm changing my mind!

Beautiful watches, all!

Yeah...I think those dials are the cream of the crop for the DD40. Very nice, and agreed, it would be a difficult choice.

Have you thought about the meteorite in WG as opposed to platinum?

i saw the rose gold slate in person recently and did a complete 180 on it. i thought it looked meh in pictures but amazing in person, although not sure it could edge out the olive for me. i still prefer yellow over rose gold when it comes to rolex though and it sounds like the yg green is the one for you

i see the appeal of white gold but it could never be my first DD

Some really nice watches but not sure about the ones with a little too much bling

That’s the thing with day dates, there’s so many great configurations. I have a platinum that I love wearing but had an itch for a gold one, bought the rose/ olive last week and it’s great but I’ve been wondering all week should I have got chocolate with bags, should I have got that slate, etc. I could easily have five of these things and I secretly want some diamonds!

I like all the pictured fluted bezel configs; the Everose olive is the top of my AD wish list, but the ombre and meteorite look very tempting. Kudos to the AD for showing them all to you.

Yes absolutely thought about the WG meteorite, will be a tough call between that reference and the yellow gold green ombre which huncho rightly said is most likely the one for me...I think there maybe room for both as for the rose gold/slate if the wife ever feels like buying me an expensive gift she more than welcome

I did also get to try the Eisenkiesel but that did not strike a chord with me....

the ombre dial is special indeed for me i ended with the rg olive and my gawd that thing makes you feel a certain way---day dates will always make you feel like you should be a person who has earned a day date, if that makes any sessne

Although i’m a big advocate of the meteorite dials, in this case I would choose a reference with more contrast/color. Day date in my mind needs color! My personal favorite is that eisenkiesel. More color and also unique. Just my 2 cents

So, after all that, you didn’t buy anything? Are you sure you’re in the market for a day date?

Thought my previous post was pretty clear, but just to clarify....after trying on the 2024 release dials and a few other notable dials, I landed on green ombre/yellow gold with fluted bezel and meteorite on white gold with fluted bezel....sadly neither exact references are in stock with my prefered AD so I will wait patiently till they arrive....

Great dials! I like the meteorite, but white metal looks better on my wrist than YG or RG.

It's not that I didn't like it as such, just prefered other combinations on rose gold namely the Slate Ombre....and still have general reservations with a full rose gold bracelet with my skin tone

+1 on that. Targeting it for my 50th birthday

But slate ombre dial is phenomenal too.

The RG w/Slate dial is amazing. In my opinion the RG looks good on you (from what we can see anyway). Had a chance to try one on in person and was surprised that I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Nothing wrong with it, it's a beautiful watch, just not in line with my personal style. Still want to see the olive green in person, pictures of it are not consistent...in some it looks to be a golden green, others it appears more slate or grey green.

Having recently tried on a 228236 Platinum Ice blue dial with diamond baguettes hour markers, this would be the one. This blew me away
