It is worth having a Rolex collection and continuing to buy them if you are over 60, even if you have enough money... ?

You have worked hard, why not enjoy it and buy what you want?
You can't take the cash with you and you can't take the watches with you but if you will enjoy wearing them more than some extra cash sitting in your bank account why not?

If you are over 60 you are still young, if you still enjoy collecting watches and money is no issue you should conitune to do what you love, only you can tell when it is the right time to stop

What does age have to do with it?? I guess if you are happy with your watches at any age then I guess you can move on to something else.

I’m 65 and have bought quite a few in my 60’s.
I’m not ready for a casket yet so as long as I can wear and enjoy them, I’ll keep buying what I like.

If it’s something you enjoy, then go for it. Age doesn’t matter.

But if you are merely buying because ADs are offering you models that you perceive to be hard to come by, then no, don’t fall into that trap. Hedonic treadmill will never stop that way.

I say yes, I'm not stopping at 62.

I've written a description of each watch and what they mean to me for my wife and kids. Told them to keep what they want, send the already taken photos of watch and box etc. to three trusted sellers and ask for a price. Sell what they like.

Trying to document ALL of my stuff that way. The tough thing is I might have a box of guitar parts with a few valuable nuggets but the rest stuff to save me a trip to the music store on a Saturday night. A $1,000 value box with one $450 part and 550 $1 parts.

And all of my hobbies seem this way. I guess I shouldn't worry too much but I don't want the dissipation of my office and garage contents, which none of them will want, to take a month of hard work.

That’s a totally personal choice. I’m assuming I may buy another couple of random fun pieces - at this point I’m thinking 5 digit classics.

I have one in mind for my combined 50th/ retirement (not a Rolex) and then I reckon I’ll stop. I’d rather spend my money on the kids, travel and golf and enjoy what I already bought. But who knows - I may be tempted to exchange one or two in my 60’s or 70’s - it’s your money so up to you.

If I left all of my assets in cash to my children and grandchildren, it would be spent and forgotten. Leaving my watch collection as part of my estate, my hope is that they will have something to remember me by. Something with my DNA on it. They have an interest in watches, so that helps. But I will continue to collect watches, and keep updating the distribution.

Our children and grandchildren will also inherit our watches among other things. If they wear them, cherish them, give them away or sell them, it won't make any difference to me by then.

Some of us continue our passions until the day we die.

For some that can be stamps, coins, widgets or watch collecting. What does it matter, they are all going to the same place when you are gone.

Personally, I would need to look very closely to buy another high end watch at my age. It isn't so much that I don't care for them any longer, it's that the newest crop does not interest me more than the couple of dozen I already have.

Absolutely this! We worry way too much about making/maintaining wealth in our younger days. Hard to break that habit….im giving it a try though….bought a boat last year…I hear they are way better money pits than watches

These are Luxury items. Is it worth driving a luxury car, or having a home that has nicer amenities, or going to a nice restaurant? all luxuries.
I am, however, starting to sell off unusued pieces. If I dont wear a timepiece every few weeks, then im increasingly selling what i dont use. I would do the same with a car or home i didnt use. Im curious how others feel about the unused timepiece or even the unused luxury item.

Geesh. I wouldn’t start packing away your life so quickly. Stay young at heart. Stay busy. Buy some kick ass watches and buy the car you wish you would have bought in your 20’s but couldn't afford.

If you have a passion for Rolex, keep buying until the passion disappears up to when you disappear.

Whoo I agree OP is young live and enjoy! I agree with everyones reply’s you never “too” young to do something or collect something. I like cars, watches and guitars! Collecting is fun, in the end my two kids will end up with everything. Might as well enjoy while you can!
