First Rolex, any precautions ?

Hello there,

I'm about to buy my first Rolex (DJ36, smooth Jubilee, from Bucherer), and was wondering what precautions should I take when wearing it.

Of course It depends on the location, I live in Paris, but I heard it can be risky in London, Barcelona too, no idea in the US (NY especially). Switzerland seems safe.

I can travel for work at these locations. For info, I work in Finance, suit attire.

Should I leave the box and papers at a bank's safe?

Only wear the watch with long sleeves ?

Or Not to travel with it in the summer ?

Maybe should I add an insurance contrat on it ?

Never wear it outside …
Wait till it’s pitch black outside and then, with a mahoosive coat on, go for a quick walk, but make sure you constantly check behind and in front of you …
Get two rolls of selotape and make sure it’s totally covered so not to scratch it ..
Never wear if it’s 100 degrees outside …

Don’t overthink it and just enjoy the watch.

Most major cities are safe, particularly in the daytime. Don’t flaunt the watch or any jewelry for that matter. If you’re not comfortable, don’t wear it or cover with sleeves.

None of the above, just wear your watch and enjoy it. If everything above is true, why would you purchase such an item?????

Dude dig up weeds in my rose bed with mine on. I swim, I hunt, I wrestle with my kids, I go shooting....Basically I always wear mine. The first time some stranger comments on your rolex when you are on a trip might freak you out, but unless you are just wanting it as an investment piece(buy NVDA instead) wear that sucker.

This is the biggest danger in starting to collect watches. Like Pringles you can't have just 1.

Just came back from trip to the EU. Barcelona, Toulouse, San Sebastian, Pisa, Florence, Madrid, Bordeaux.
Was wearing 41 DJ on Jubilee and Rose Gold Daytona. No one cares. Just enjoy your watches. If too concerned - insure them.
If you don't wear them - don't buy them.

Congrats on the watch, wear it and enjoy it. It’s a lovely piece. Just be alert and aware of surroundings like you would normally be.
All Rolexes will have a ‘street’ value to criminals but I would say your piece would be less desirable than something with more hype and potentially much easier to flip.

Expect millions wear Rolex watches every day world wide,and if you state you seem to be worried about wearing in as it might cause more anxiety then simple answer don't buy one.

Sure - If you want to keep it nice, don’t keep toddlers at home.

They are generally covered in zips and poppers and enjoy climbing and wrestling.

They move suddenly and unpredictably and will randomly and violently assault you with no warning.

They also like to pick things up and throw them. iPhones, car keys and watches are apparently ideal for this game. (He says typing on a cracked screen…)

Just use basic common sense and "street awareness" and you will be fine.

I would avoid wearing it doing heavy exercise, labor or working around or with steel tools. You should also develop a spatial sense of where the watch is, meaning, don't swing your arms through a door jamb or near a concrete wall, type stuff.
