Wearing PM Rolex in Shanghai PRC , is it safe ?

Hi ,

I need your opinion guys !

I will be traveling to Shanghai - PRC in October for a business trip and I plan to wear my PM Rolex there (probably the rootbeer or bluesy).

Is Shanghai city relatively safe ? As I never been there , and this will be my first time :)

And I promise to myself that I won’t visit any night club / bar, and other drink places, so I will stay sober during this trip :)

Also, if you guys have any recommendation which Rolex AD should I stop by in Shanghai, please let me know.

Really appreciate if you can share your opinions here.

Thank you ! :)

Didn’t have mine at the time but a coworker did. Never felt unsafe. Even out drinking and whatnot. Visited one AD and they had nothing. This was a month after they lifted the restrictions on visas, May of last year

Visiting China normally 3 times a year for business and always wearing my Rolex. Very, very! safe country.

The last thing I have ever worried about as an American in China is crime. Be smart, and enjoy that watch, you bought it to wear didn’t you?

Also - I would recommend the following restaurants: Canton 8, Lei Garden, Da Dong and Rong Cuisine if near downtown!

There is an AD in the same mall as Da Dong and Lei Garden as a bonus!

Just came back from the PRC and had my SkyD on the wrist 24/7.
Zero security issues, do wear your PM worry free.

I arrived back in my own country and crooks everywhere the minute I get out of the terminal. Pfffff.

Shanghai is a very wealthy city with 25 million inhabitants, not much of a chance to buy anything as a walk in

China is a safe country in terms of physical security from petty crime. I’d be more worried about the data getting stolen from your laptop than someone stealing your watch.

China is super safe. I wear my Rolexes everywhere I go, including whenever I’m in China. You have nothing to worry about. China is far safer than the USA. Don’t believe what you read on the net or see on TV.

Not much I like about China however it's safe, a petty thief would be thrown in the hole for 20 years without a fair trial, that keeps things in order somewhat.

It’s probably safer to wear in Shanghai than the place you are travelling from

Haven't been to Shanghai but have been to HK and Sanya, Hainan, no safety issues whatsoever.

Don't mention Taiwan, Tibet, or Tiananmen, or Uigyur concentration camps, or human rights, or...

And you'll be fine.

I would have guessed safe in China.

My wife and I are traveling to Paris, Reims and Strasbourg later this fall and I must admit, I’m definitely debating which watch to wear. I hope to wear my new BLNR.

In terms of violent crimes, Shanghai is easily in the top 3 safest cities, grouped with Tokyo and Singapore. Wear whatever you want. A lot of places your watch will be below minimum standards anyway...lol

I have lived in Shanghai and never felt more safe in a place. Would never have an issue with wearing a PM.

Typical rules apply - dont be an idiot

*** I can give you a few recommendation for a bar visit

When we travel to most places I just bring along two Rolexes, one stainless Datejust with diamond dial for me, and a two tone lady's Datejust with diamond dial for her.

I don't think either would be much of a target, but even then just wear them to go to dinner or some kind of event, not just to walk around in the street.

90% of the time these days it is Apple Watch for us. Those are less than a target because they may be activation locked and even tracked.

Years ago used to walk around anyplace and everyplace with a solid gold Rolex or other even more expensive Swiss watch, but no longer.

There are places where I will wear any of my watches, but walking around on the street is not one of them.
