Trade Meteorite Daytona for 5164a

Crazy to consider this? Never owned a PP and have narrowed to the 5164 as the would-be choice (but can't swing adding one without selling / trading right now).

I fully realize it's stainless vs gold, nothing special to the dial, etc. Would love thoughts from the community.

Generally prefer PP to Rolex, but I would not do this trade. The Daytona is perhaps the best referent in the Rolex lineup, and the meteor version the finest example of the Daytona. The Aquanaut is terrific, but in addition to the Daytona, not a replacement for it.

Two rare birds. I’d keep the Daytona as it’s more likely to work after taking a whack

The meteorite Daytonas are just too good.

I wouldn’t.

No roman numerals. It's on Oysterflex.

I wouldn't, meteorite daytona on oyster flex is too unique.

Great perspective. Probably need to just keep saving and add the Aquanaut even if it's a few years from now.

Is it the YG, WG, or RG that you have? If YG or WG, I'd keep. If RG, I may would do it... or swap the RG for the WG.

I think that in the long run, the meteorite Daytona would be the better one to hold--especially if you got it at retail.

The 5164a I've never tried on, but I've tried the 5167a on a couple times and found it very attractive--way more than I thought. However, the OF Daytona feels like a more solid watch and is relatively a lot more visually interesting with the meteorite dial.

Get the Patek. Once I went Patek I sold 5 of my Rolexes and could not care less that they’re gone. I wear the Patek daily. It’s a whole different league of watch

Thanks...it's the WG model.

Definitely agree that the Daytona (especially in gold) feels more substantial. I tried the 5164 on once and it's much, much lighter.

This is exactly what I'm "worried" about;) I think it could alter the course of my hobby entirely.

Which do you like to wear most?

I owned them one at a time all in the course of like 2 months. I decided I like the heft of the gold and the thickness (if you can call it that) of the 5164. 5164R is perfect for me and the keeper, and likely a good option for you OP if you like the gold aspect

If I had your exact collection in your signature…..I’d probably make that trade.

Exactly the feedback I was looking for! I'm tempted to track down a 5164G as I tend to like white gold over rose (just looks better on my wrist). But prices are bonkers on those right now.

If you’re going to do the trade, hopefully it’s a newer model 5164A with the updated 26-330 movement, and new style clasp. My 5164A is probably my most worn watch in the collection FWIW.

Great to hear. Yes...would definitely track down a newer model. I need to do some more research to find out when they rolled out that movement and the newer clasp. Thx again.

I wouldn't do the trade. Tried Aquanaut recently in PP Boutique and wasn't impressed at all. Looks like a Casio in PM case to me.

Clasp started changing over in ‘21, movement in ‘22.

Then yes, you would be crazy to move that Daytona for an Aquanaut.

Being that it's the modern version on Oysterflex, no way in hell would I let that Daytona go!! You would be kicking yourself down the road. While the Patek is nice, I would find another way to add when you can, but not with letting that Daytona go. You would regret it and replacing that Daytona wouldn't be easy or cheap.

No! I would sell some of the more common pieces in your collection that you could easily buy back over time such as your panda, Pepsi, etc. I love the WG Meteorite. However, I’ve also had both the 5167 and 5164 and tbh I didn’t get the hype at all, so let them go. 5167 too basic and 5164 pushers on left side looked too much like pac man or something. Still have my Nautilus which is all I need until I get a 5970.

I have both the white oyster flex meteorite and the 5164a. Both watches share the same amount of wrist time. I find the 5164 easier to wear on a daily basis, and is my go to travel watch. The oyster flex however special and is a treat to wear knowing that you will likely never come across another one in the wild. The 5164 a has been produced for 13 years and there are a ton of them out there. I’d keep the Daytona as you will always be able to find the 5164 when the time is right.
