Hi Guys, I'm new in this forum, have been reading the post for weeks now, I have enjoyed it and learned a lot about the Rolex models.

I wanted to get some suggestion on my first rolex purchase. Do I get the SS GMTIIc or save more for a SS Daytona?

I would like to use it as my daily wear :)

GMTIIc...as has been said it has the date...it also has the ability to track two time zones........although the Daytona is the watch to have for lots of people (including myself) the GMTIIc is probably a more functional day to day watch....how often would you use the chrono function and how often would you miss the date function?......there also the cost and availability differences to consider.....

Maybe you could post another poll....to all owners of both models....which one do you find yourself wearing most as a day to day watch?......for me I think (I don't know yet because I am still waiting for my Daytona to come) the GMT would get the most daily wear, I think I would save the Daytona for special occaisions, or at least not work days.......but who knows......it's difficult to resist wearing what you consider to be your best watch.....

Would price be a consideration and are you buying brand new from an AD?

With the GMT you might get a discount from the MRSP but with the Daytona, you might have to pay the full MRSP or even a slight premium. Are you comfortable with that?

IMO if it's a daily beater you're after, then the GMT IIc probably has the slight edge with its date function and scratch-resistant ceramic bezel. Good luck deciding!

Ok, well I have both. I voted for the SS Daytona only because of its long term hold value and recognizability (is that a word?) Anyway the SS Daytona is a grail, so if you can get one I say you should. I have both the Black and White Dial SS Daytona and prefer the White.

However my GMT II C is my daily wearer. It gets about 75% of my wrist time. Beautiful and the functional. The maxi dial is great for the eyes. Rolex really got it right on this one!

You really can't go wrong with either.

I think you have answered your own question here!!!! Personaly,I am bias though)go the GMT.....

Maybe if i get the gmtIIc, i will be itching soon for the daytona, so If i get the daytona less itch to get the gmtIIc? just some thoughts.hehe

maybe owners of both watches can share some thoughts

both models seems to be a scratch magnet.

Actually, all the new clasps, be they SS, TT or YG, are scratch magnets......just gotta be that extra careful!!

To the person that purchased two stainless Daytonas......would you not rather have purchased one solid gold one instead of two stainless? I am just wondering because I am having this type of situation, I have A TT GMT II C and a TT Sub and I find they are so similar I am regretting not shelling out the dough on one nice solid gold piece.....hmmmmmm

For me the GMT has always been my prefered daily wear. The Daytona is a stunning watch, I just have more use for the GMT function and versatility.

just want to share my experience.. in the beginning i thought i wont let go of my daytona black.. but i just fell out of love with it. now i enjoying and loving my 2 tone gmt 2 ceramic(i realized i wanted some gold in my life( LOL). i just love everything in it and the contentment is higher than the ss daytona.its complete package i think and sooo beautiful..though the daytona is even more expensive than my GMT 2 two tone.

I actually have both, and I think each are great. Although both are 40mm, the GMT IIc looks much larger on your wrist. I don't know if that is a consideration or not, but for someone with a large wrist, the SS Daytona could look small.

Tough choice! Both are beauties....if you really want a Daytona in your collection, then I'd suggest getting it as soon as possible. While they're more readily available now, and at discounts, that won't last too long. The GMTII-C will be around for a while and easily obtainable with discounts. A great pair to have!

they are both fantastic watches, with the gmt-c i think rolex have got it just about perfect, but the daytona will always draw attention due to its exclusivity and heritage i think

you cant go wrong with either but to wear daily its gotta be the gmt-c for me and the daytona evenings and going out

I own both watches, but I have to say the GMTIIc is the better watch as an only watch for daily wear. I love the daytona, but the GMT is a lot tougher. It's very likely the that bezel on the daytona will scratch over time.

Both lovely watches though, and either would be a fantastic choice IMO.

I had the very same decision to make and went for the Daytona. It took my breath away.

If they get around to issuing a pepsi GMT IIc, I'll be right there at the front of the queue.

I strongly recommend the Sub for daily wear.

I love and have both, but Daytona is a higher-class watch. It's like comparing BMW M or MB AMG against regular BMWs and MBs.

On the flip side, how valuable really is the date function? Do people really wake up in the morning and not know what day it is? I never understood it. I'm sure I'll get flamed on this comment, but for goodness sakes, is it really that hard to remember?

I wear a SS Daytona now as my primary watch. I would probably go with the GMT2c, much easier to read.

I like the older dial ss daytona (4030, I think it is) with the black in the subdials. I prefer the GMT IIC relative to the current ss daytona.

I agree the function is useless to many, but the dial is so beautiful and that is the reason I love it.

The GMT feature on my GMT gets used every week as I do more flying than pilots!
