Rolex Deepsea Diff. Sizes?
I went to a Rolex dealer today and saw the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 catalogs and there was difference between the deepsea.
in the first catalog its mentioned that the deepsea size is 43mm in 2009-2010 catalog its mentioned that the size is 44mm So did the size got bigger in 2010 or its the same and there is something wrong with the website and catalog? |

I think it must be a mistake on the website and catalogue as the Deepsea is unchanged at 43mm.

I noticed the other day on Rolex.com they are now classifying it as 44mm. I've never measured mine to determine exactly how big it is as I don't have the precision instrument needed. Anyone out there done it to clear this up once & for all?

Well you should know Rolex by now anything described as more or bigger is always better.

The Yatchmaster II is also listed as 44mm. I'm not sure but hasn't that been promoted as 43mm?

Personally, I doubt it's a typo...just another marketing gimmick. I'm sure somewhere, during some 'focus group' or 'scientific' survey Rolex determined 44mm sells better from a psychological standpoint than 43mm, so they made the switch.
I do know from experience there seems to be a lot of 44mm, 45mm & 46mm watches on the market...but I can't recall many 43mm. Rolex obviously invented the DSSD due to pressure/feedback that customers wanted a bigger watch that is on par size-wise with the competition...something to stop the complaints of, "Why is Rolex always the 'small guy' when you're talking about modern sport watches?" So they debut the DSSD in '43mm' and sure enough people still get all up in arms saying, "Yeah, it's bigger...but brands like Omega & Brietling w/ their plethora of 44mm watches still are bigger." Hence, the "change" to 44mm. Yeah, I know it's pretty dumb, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly what's going on. |

I was measuring the bezel as I thought someone had mentioned that as the proper way to do it, but now I see Tools saying in another thread that the measurement should be taken from the back from below the crown to the other side. That measurement is about 43.59mm so 44mm would be correct.

Imagine that Rolex had to change all the tooling and the enormous press to make the case ... for 1 mm and not making a enormous song and dance about it and why .... the benefits etc.. not to mention the price increase that would go with it .
Having said that , Rolex must be gearing up for an price increase for the SDDS and the 44 mm gimmick on the web and catalogue will be used to justify it |

If a watch case is 43 point something mm, they could choose to call it 43mm or 44mm. These days, going with fashion, they would choose to call it 44mm.
Rolex did not design and manufacture a DSSD case that is a fraction of a mm larger. Mark |

Time to find a new local dealer IMO. A "Rolex Dealer" that doesn't know this basic information/history of a watch that is less than 2 years old is incompetent if you ask me. Better yet, refer him/her to TRF as it's apparent he/she could use some schoolin'.
