Forward or back?

Put the time back on my Sub date. Couldn't be bothered to adjust it forwards eleven hours and set the date so just wound it backwards one hour. Is it ok to do that? or could I have risked damaging the mechanism through my laziness?

Agreed, as long as it's not done after 9:00 PM unless, of course, it's a GMT II.

So why would it matter after 9:00? I thought modern rolex movements were immune to this ? The 3186 of the GMT is a slightly modified 3135 is it not? And I thought the problem was setting the date by quickset between 10pm and 2am not necessarily the time. The modern Datejust manual that came with my 116200 does not mention either of these problems it says: "Position 3-Crown pulled out to the last notch. Position for resetting the hands either backward or forward." likewise the quickset date instruction does not mention to not perform the operation between 10pm (9?) and 2am.

I don't know for sure just what I've read here so someone please clarify thanks!

No problem with the newer movements but IMO there are older non quickset movements that could be damaged.
Dan is just staying on the safe side and setting the date well away from 9pm - 3 am is not a bad habit to get into if you have brands other than Rolex and older models.

It should be perfectly fine to turn it backwards.
