Just Bought A GMTIIc - Some Questions

Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster here!

After many months of deliberation, I just bought myself a brand new SS GMTIIc from one of our favorite sellers here on TRF. I have the tracking number in hand, and it will be here before 10:30AM tomorrow. The word 'excited' doesn't even come close - I may stay up all night waiting for fedex :-)

Anyway, I have a couple of possibly really dumb questions that I was hoping that you could help me with.

1) I intend to take it into an AD tomorrow to get the bracelet sized (I have quite small wrists). If they ask me where I got it, are they ever weird with people who bought their watch on the gray market? Should I be honest with them?

2) I need to get an insurance valuation I think (I will use Jewelers Mutual as frequently recommended on here). Will the AD be the best place to get this valuation done?

Thanks so much for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I have wanted a GMT since I was a kid, and you guys helped me get it.

I really suck at photography, but I'm currently sitting here looking at the macro settings on my camera getting ready to post some shots tomorrow :-)

Congratulations on the GMT.I have been wearing mine for 25 years and love it.

If it where me I would walk in and ask them if they can size it for you.Tell them you don't expect it done for free since you did not buy it from them and are willing to pay for this service.

Welcome to TRF magic!!!!
Your Ad is the best place for an appraisal......
If they ask where it came from, tell 'em from a family friend if its already named on the warranty!!!!! They won't really care anyway,as long as it's legit!!!
Congrats on the purchase of GMT.....A fine watch!!!
Post pics when it arrives and enjoy this wonderful forum..!
Rob.

I would not be afraid to take the watch to the AD. Who cares what they think.....walk in there with your watch and said you recently bought it and you need it resized. Usually they would do it for free, my local AD does that, they will just think you bought it from them.

If that doesn't work....just ask them how much it is and pay for it. Let's just say it is very easy to size a bracelet, on that note, you can seewhat they are charging is realistic.

They are gonna ask you if you purchased it there. Just say no and they will size it for a fee usually $10.00 to $15.00 down here in Miami Fla. Be aware that with a tiny screw driver you could remove a link yourself and save the money. Good luck and congrats

Congrats. Yeah...$15 to get it on your wrist. They will likely ask if you bought it there...but dumb question. If you did. you would have gotten it sized then!

Hardly a dumb question. You assume too much. I bought a few Rolexes from an AD last year and I certainly didn't have them size any of them for me.

To the OP: if they ask where you bought it from, and you don't really feel like saying, just say something to the effect that it was a gift, or that it was bought overseas.

You didn't read my comment correctly...and your comment makes no sense.

If you bought a watch from an AD you would have likely had them sized *when you bought it* Why would you come back later...and ask to have it sized. Most you would likely do is have a minor adjustment.

Time pressure. Went back to have one sized a few weeks later. Again, you assume too much.

Previously you said you "certainly didn't have them size any of them for you..." and now you say you went back a few weeks later to have "one" sized?

Whatever.

If it makes you feel better, then I'll add, with respect to one of them, "... at the time of purchase". OK? Granted, I could have been more precise with my posts, and I do try to be, but that doesn't mean I'll always succeed. Still, you assume too much.

Hey guys, here's my experience.

I bought my GMTIIc from an AD in Melbourne whilst there on a holiday (I live in Sydney). Sized it perfectly. Fast forward 10 weeks, and I LOST 10Kg (22lb) - yes, I was fat and needed to lose weight! or so my wife kept telling me.

So the watch was way too big! I needed a link removed as well as adjustment made. So I went to Rolex Service Centre in Sydney, and they just did it whilst I waited. I took the warranty credit card with me in case they asked.

So just tell them it WAS sized when you bought it, and you lost some weight!

I have the tools now, but when I bought my YG DD on eBay I took it to my local AD and they sized it for free.

I've never had to pay for it.
