Enjoy wearing it SO much! Was supposed to be on my wrist a year and a half ago... Still can't believe I got the 16610 instead making it harder to find a 16570 now... But at least I have it and enjoy it now:)

16570 polar explorer will gain it’s charm as time goes by. I think it was just eclipsed by the sub. It is more popular than the exp2

If you’re going to get one, I think this is the right reference to get.

Forget what is popular, choosing what resonates with your personal taste and brings you joy is paramount. Trends may come and go, don’t let it dictate what you should buy.

I absolutely hated the 16570s back in the day. They are just so “odd-ball” in the Rolex line-up that I suspect most watch people find them to deviate from what Rolex is - comparing to DJs, subs, gmts etc.
Once it was on my wrist for the first time though…. Wow what a magical experience! I prefer it over the 16610s and some days over the 16710 as well. The white dial is just “special”. But it’s definitely a watch that looks better on wrist than in pictures I think. Kind of a sleeper in that sense. I think it perhaps my favourite 5 digit piece.

Thanks for creating a post of the 16570. I always wondered the same. Too bad for the haters, they don’t know what they are missing with this watch.
Lots have been said: slim, discret, robust, tough and somehow dressy, gmt… it is just a great watch. Mine with the 3186 spend lots of time on my wrist. The lack of popularity comes also maybe because the watch was never in a movie or on a movie star’s wrist. If magnum pi had an Eii maybe things would be different today. This is my second 16570… I moved on from my first but that made me appreciate it all the more. |

..Re acquired a 16570.. This one an early F series..Would have preferred a drilled lug hole case, as strap changing is fiddlier, but aren’t these one of the best looking Rolex professionals on a nato strap..? Still in honeymoon period with it 🥰

Agree completely that the radial brushed bezel goes great with a NATO! |

If you prefer not to pay crazy prices for current models from the grey market, this 5-digital serial is a winner.

For whatever reason this watch really caught my eye when I first started collecting. Perhaps its the perfect size or the way the black lacquer dances with the pure white dial. I finally pulled the trigger on a nice 1999 P Serial (open lug holes w SEL) 6 months ago. I wear it everyday as a daily. Dont really care if the value goes up or not I dont plan on ever selling it. Perfect under the radar travel watch and if you know, you know.

How come the 16570 is not extremely popular?
Love em!

Interesting thread. Enjoyed reading through the responses. I've been trying to decide between a 16610 and 16570 as my next acquisition for a while. The more I read of people's experiences with the exp II the more I'm leaning in that direction. I know the sub is iconic, but I appreciate the more under-the-radar aspect of the exp II, along with the fact that everyone has a sub and I generally like to be different. Also the GMT function would be more useful to me than the rotating bezel and I don't dive either. I currently daily a DJ36 but it's over 40 years old and I don't exactly baby my watches so I would like to find something a little more practical to wear everyday.

I would say the 5-digit Explorer II are sleeper. They are behind the big names like Sub, GMT and Daytona etc. If you have the option to buy one piece in an good condition - take it!

In my opinion, as an owner myself, it's understated elegance, under the radar cool. As long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters.
