This. Plus, never settle. If you settle for a piece for whatever reason, i.e. availability, finances, etc, you won't be truly happy and, in the end, will always be thinking about the piece you should have gotten.

Besides some of the Rolex models already mentioned by others, I have a general theory for all watches - Rolex, Patek, AP, Omega, etc.

That is, when any watch sells on the secondary market at a significant reduction to MSRP - be VERY sure that you will like it, wear it, and hold it for a long, long, time.

I think you're going about this backwards.

As a 'noob,' what you want to do is figure out what watch fits your vibe and your lifestyle. Then go after it.

If you happen to get offered whatever watch that is, well, that's a win. Certainly not something to be 'avoided.' And...if it's not the watch you want, why would that even be a consideration?
