I used to know those guys at Marcks & Co. very well. I mean, it's been a long time since I was last there (1995), but they were wonderful guys to deal with.

At that time, Rolex was still a banned imported item, but now things have changed drastically in India with the booming economy.

Hope all is well with you and your family.

Cheers - JJ
India must be a strange country. They ban the import of Rolex and gladly export Mr Irani.

What is best a custom Rolex or a Rolex that is stuck in custom?

Buy a professional camera and you´re a professional
photographer, buy a flute and you own a flute.

I am talking about several years ago when Indian Import policies were very different from what they are today.

Not just Rolex, but several other top SWISS brands were not allowed to be imported. Of course, this encouraged smuggling and corruption no end.

I had a good friend who made regular trips to Singapore and picked up Rolexes for his select customers. He made quite a killing on this business. How he managed to get them past Indian Customs in those days was a miracle.

Today, the Indian economy is seeing an all mighty BOOM. Virtually everything under the sun can be imported. Rolex, Patek, AP, VC and all other high-end brands are now officially imported with ADs scattered all over the place. Bombay (Mumba) alone has 5 Rolex ADs. But with that population, sales are bound to be good.

JJ
There you go Jim...comprehensive as usual JJ. They also have just pulled in Pannerai...quite a few around..and new on the market there.

Also, just for your info JJ I was moonlighting in another (non-rolex) dealer...and of course all the RADO's came out....they were quickly put away again once they saw my face

I saw one in Time Avenue in Bandra (W) a few months ago. Not sure if they will still have it. I remember the sales guy trying to tell me how rare they are and I shouldn't expect a discount on that
