oh oh...look what I stumbled upon in Mumbai (pics!!)

Hi all...here in India and just casually () walking down the street in Mumbai as you do (here on holiday visitng family etc) and came across this place....well..had to go in and played with some pieces.....and ...hmmmn....looks like I may be in love again...(and I cannot believe it): but with the DSSD....

what a watch...took India to make me want it (DavidSW - - I may be heading your way )

Happy New Year to you all by the way...have been absent for some time...missed being on here just haven't had the chance to get on to my favourite site: I hope you're all well and had a peaceful holiday.

here are sme statutory pics of this AD in Mumbai...there are 3 others...and yes..I'll be visiting!!!!

Prices are pretty good....US$8,500 for the DSSD...but we know where we can get that cheaper on here

Welcome back.

Great photos. Hope to visit India some day. I am pretty well-travelled, but alas, have not made it there yet.

Do you see many Rolexes in the wild?

Hi Dalip,

Glad to have you back and posting, my friend.

I used to know those guys at Marcks & Co. very well. I mean, it's been a long time since I was last there (1995), but they were wonderful guys to deal with.

At that time, Rolex was still a banned imported item, but now things have changed drastically in India with the booming economy.

Hope all is well with you and your family.

Cheers - JJ

Hello Dalip,

Thanks for inputs on the availability of Rolex watches in Mumbai. I am still in Kochi, Kerala and did not find any AD while going around the city.

Hey JJ...!!! Amazing isn't it!! Such a small world.

The guy I dealt with was fantastic...really down to earth and straight forward. I told him about TRF (had to say something when was taking some quick pics )...spent a lot of time with me. Great service and passion for the watches

Things have indeed changed!

Things are good with the family here. Alison, Shaylan and I are really enjoying being with them...has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride with the loss of my Nunny...but so lovely to be with everyone. We are just relaxing in Mumbai now..enjoying the food!!!!

Hope you are recovering well. All the best to you and your lovely family.

I can answer your question, Jim.

I am talking about several years ago when Indian Import policies were very different from what they are today.

Not just Rolex, but several other top SWISS brands were not allowed to be imported. Of course, this encouraged smuggling and corruption no end.

I had a good friend who made regular trips to Singapore and picked up Rolexes for his select customers. He made quite a killing on this business. How he managed to get them past Indian Customs in those days was a miracle.

Today, the Indian economy is seeing an all mighty BOOM. Virtually everything under the sun can be imported. Rolex, Patek, AP, VC and all other high-end brands are now officially imported with ADs scattered all over the place. Bombay (Mumba) alone has 5 Rolex ADs. But with that population, sales are bound to be good.

JJ
