I wouldn’t say every collection “needs” a Datejust but I definitely enjoy having one.

No DJ for me. Just not my style. Oh I admired them from afar. And yes they are beautiful. I love that DJ41 with the rhodium dial with the jubilee. Just nice. But when I try it on my wrist. It just doesn't suit me. I'm more of a Sub, Sub Date, GMT II kinda guy.

The DJ is a classic and holds its place in the history of modern watchmaking. The first watch to have an automatic changing date complication. The current reference DJ41 is a beautiful watch. There are many fanboys of the submariner on this forum, but to be fair, the Datejust has a more impressive history and a far greater impact on the watch market than the Sub.

Whether or not a DJ is a must have watch is up to the buyer. It is more of a commodity watch than a Sub which I think is why it gets slighted by some on TRF. But its popularity over the Sub should be an indication that many buyers appreciate the DJ. Me included. A DJ was my first watch and I hope to add a DJ41 Blue/Stick in the near future.

A Patek or Lange is hardly a substitute purchase to a DJ. Those watches are in a completely different category. It is not like a DJ buyer would instead decide a watch at ~4 times the cost is an alternative.

There are so many combos of the DJ that there is something for everyone. Sporty, dressy, two tone...

Thats absolutely ridiculous...I personally own a 41 TT DJ and a sub. Probably my next one will be a 36 SS silver dial DJ. So in my collection there will probably 2 DJ’s. Such a wonderful, luckily underestimated, available, price negotiable watch. Love it.

Yes. I bought a 16014 DJ (after getting a sub), and I like it so much I might get a modern DJ36. I’m not single, but still young (I guess?). But I think a single guy could easily pull off the oyster bracelet DJ.

Big DJ fan here.
Got my DJ41 a year ago. Blue stick, fluted , Jubilee. Definitely a keeper.
Just the right amount of bling, very versatile and you can still swim in it!

I think so so. But I think it has to be fluted on jubilee. There’s a reason DJ’s are one of the biggest sellers for Rolex...I wear my DJ41 as my daily. Rhodium Fluted and jubilee for me but I got Some DIAMONDS lol. Just to add a certain level of F U

Classic Rolex and the brands iconic look. I love my DJ2. Years ago all I looked at was profesional sport models. When the DJ2 came out in its larger size and I tried one on, I was hooked. The DJ IS Rolex and takes a back seat to none of the profesional sport models in the Rolex history and grand scheme of the brand. This forum tends to be profesional sport model centric and not represent the reality of who is buying what. From my last few vacations in higher end areas, the DJ was by far the most popular Rolex to be seen in the wild.

I think if you are collecting Rolex seriously, you should consider a Datejust or Explorer in your collection. I have a rhodium dial, fluted bezel, Jubilee bracelet Datejust 41. I'll admit it isn't my most worn piece, but it is my "dressiest watch." It shares time with my base Panerai Radiomir when I wear a suit.

DJs are great. There's a reason they're Rolex's best-seller, plus that fluted-bezel/cyclops combo making it the most-easily recognizable Rolex (and perhaps even watch) in the world.

I love my older DJ, as it was my first. I can see how some don't consider it necessary; however I would never get rid of mine. I think the only two watches I feel like I need to complete my foreseeable collection is a Speedmaster and a JLC Reverso. Dream watch is a 5711 though...

My first Rolex was a two tone DJ on jubilee white roman dial, it was stunning to me. Love the DJ41, silver, smooth on oyster but now I'm a cyclops hater and really don't need a date. I may have an OP39 Rhodium in the future. I'm sure the DJ and Sub are the most recognized ever.
