My other young person gripe is 'legit' - as in 'that's legit why I went to the shops'.

Talking of when you get old - when I went to look for a new Rolex as a newly flush 24 year old Y2K IT contractor back in 1998 I was torn between the first watch I ever really noticed (a blue dial two tone 16613) and a Sub - this was in Nice France at a very posh jeweler. The perfectly coiffed 60'ish French saleslady walked up to me and I said I was torn between the two - she looks me up and down and says with a smoky voice 'You are young, you are quite handsome - you do not need the gold watch - when you are old, fat and bald you can have zee gold watch'. Solid sales pitch :) Fast forward 20 years and I'm starting to get the itch for a two tone sub so I'm sliding nicely into middle age :)

I have 8 kids and 14 grandchildren.

Every time one of them says 'like' out of context I say 'BEEP!!'.

They hate me.

I have been doing some regular yard work at Son's place. He is 30, I am retired.
Mostly chainsawing down unwanted trees on footpath then digging/axing out the remaining stumps with axe and crowbar. Hard work but I enjoy it.
Twice recently different big young men from the neighbourhood have come over to volunteer assistance.
I mentioned this to Wife saying how generous I felt it was.
She said "You are 66 yrs old and 60kg wringing wet, and swinging that big axe like a 20 year-old. They are worried you might hurt yourself".
Probably true.

When people use jargon with me I clarify every single one until they stop doing it.

You know you are getting older when the age group of the ladies that appeal to you go up.

God, putting it that way makes me want to go back and do it all over again!

Do I get bonus old points for having a ton of gray hair? I think half my hair is gray at 36. Especially on the right side.

I do think the disconnected from the youth feeling is happening at a younger age though. Texting and internet language destroying the way people speak.

I am a high school football coach. I coach both girls and boys teams. Since this is an international forum, I am talking about "american football", not soccer. For each team I coach, we have whatsapp chat groups. The boys and girls teams are private school teams. I have never and I mean never seen such a massacre of the language. Abbreviations for everything. Emoticons (emojis) for everything. Sometimes, I lose my cool, and tell them to cut it out. It works for about 1-3 days and they are back to doing it again. So, I can understand what Syed is saying.

I'm 34. I realized I was old when I had to ask "what the heck is 'insta'?" Oh, Instagram. I guess they are just too lazy to completely form full words...
My boys and girls team have simplified the "Insta" , down to "IG". Hey, Johnny, "IG" me later on.

This is something that I think about a lot. I was born in 1990 and I think the late 80s through early 90s was one of the most interesting times to be born because that was the transition period from the non-digital to digital era. When I was growing up, we didn't have cell phones and the internet was still in its infancy. I think people were more social then. We spoke face to face and when we did write to each other, we did not abbreviate all of our words.

I am the first to admit that my grammar isn't perfect (Hey, I am in banking guy so numbers is the language I speak ), but I try. I remember when texting became a thing and people started abbreviating words like crazy because clicking the numbers on the keypad multiple times just to get the letter you wanted was a royal pain in the ass (kids these days will never know that struggle LOL!!), but I still tried. I never wrote something like "c u l8r" and instead "see you later". Now, it's just normal for people to do that. Honestly, it doesn't really bother me. Language (written and spoken form) is always changing. If somebody from the 1800s heard how we speak and write today (even how we spoke and wrote 30 years ago), they'd be ashamed. It is what it is.

I’m 50 and have an 11 year old son and 13 year old daughter.

My son had refers to things that are exceptional as “sick”. I am old.

I was the old man at 24 when everybody who worked for me were 18 and 19. Was I an old man? No.

Now that I am 57 and my back, knees, and hands all hurt I feel old. Am I an old man? Not when my father in law is 84.

Thing is, it’s all relative. Maybe your older and a bit disconnected from those much younger but that doesn’t make you old. Some of these things may make you a bit more mature, but just wait until you are actually old. Don’t rush it, you’ll get there soon enough.
