Have you seen this year's rolex magazine, issue #06, highlighting the Sub? There are tons of pictures with guys wearing tux with their subs. Are you sure you can't match your sub to a dress up event?

Regardless of what you decide to do in the future, you'll be fine. The resale on Subs is at an all time high, so if you do decide to sell. You perhaps might even gain some money. Look at some dress watches as others have said as the Sub is a great watch. I would personally recommend a Nomos Orion 38 Datum. It won't break the bank and truly it is a superb watch. (I am biased, I own one. I had to have a German watch!) Here's some pictures for you, these are not great pictures it looks far better in real life as the blued hands and the champagne batons really glow in the light and change colour... hard to explain! But if you see one in real life and let the light hit it... you will understand! I don't think you will find a better dress watch without spending 5-10 times as much! It's only 8.9mm thick too, which is so thin and thus comfortable. |

I picked up the 116710LN but then felt it needed that extra flash and went for the 116613LB. I definitely miss the GMTc for those outfits that would go great with a Black dial. Good luck brother! |

Nothing wrong with coming to realize that the Frat Boy look doesn't work for every occasion.
Add a dress watch (a real one, the kind adults who know how to dress themselves wear) and you're good to go. |

I think the Sub goes wonderfully with a suit. Everyone has their own preference. I do not like loud bright pieces. I prefer understated classic looks. You might need to look at a jubilee bracelet on a DJ perhaps.

Then I went out and tried on a lot of other watches. The Explorer I clicked so I bought it and kept both for a time. This whole process took about 4 months, but when I put the sub up for sale I was certain that it wasn't for me. I sold the 114060 very quickly and made a grand on it after owning it a little over a year (I bought used). I don't miss it. Best of luck with your search. |

Have you considered wearing the Sub on a leather strap for dressier occasions?
An 1803 DD on strap or vintage DJ would also fit the bill. Good luck and good hunting. |

Dear OP. Just get a different watch to wear when the mood strikes you. No need to sell your precious sub.

Polish the center links and you'll have your dress watch back.

If you think a Sub is boring, wait until you've worn nothing but a dress watch for awhile. Pure dress watches tend to be very simple and clean in design. Appropriate for their purpose, but usually quite boring. Unless you wear a suit every day, I think it's best to spend the lion's share of one's watch budget on everyday/all-around watches since they'll tend to get the most wrist time.
A Datejust would be certainly be a more 'dressy' option, but a perfectly acceptable dress watch (Seiko, Orient, Tissot, Hamilton, etc) can be purchased for less than 1/10th the cost of a Rolex; no need to sell/trade your Sub unless you actually dislike it. Anyway I suspect no single watch is going to scratch the actual itch you've got. Most of us have been there. |
