Rolex Submariner No Date: Kinda Bored...need Advice
Happy New Year to You All. I know I am going to get shot down on this thread...was really excited about this "Hard to find" SS no date Submariner. Still loving the darn little guy & I get the appeal, history & all that jazz. The watch is wonderful, classic, nice etc. However, over the holidays I had to get dressed up for some events, & I can't help feeling like damn, this watch is too sporty, I cant dress it up as I thought, just didn't go well with a suit, tie & black tie look. This got me thinking, do I need to upgrade? hmm..When I had my GMT II SS, never got that feeling & I kinda miss that PCL- Am I the @$$hole here for feeling bored with this watch? not able to dress it up, etc. Looks good with Jeans & a V.neck black sweater but its definitely NOT the all around Rolex I had hoped for, The love is dissipating guys, I need some reason knocked into me!

You are letting the watch wear you, imo
If funds are available, get a DJ41 to compliment the Sub (which is a great icon) |

Sorry to say but I agree with your assessment. What you are craving is some bling. Recommend upgrading to a TT Sub. Black dial.

Add a TT piece to the collection.

I think you’re being very reasonable in your thought process actually. Your post echoes my own thoughts and is why I’m not into most of the ss professional line. For all the talk of how flexible these models are from board shorts to the board room, I just can’t see them performing this way with my attire. Sartorial decisions are of course personal so many will disagree. A sub is a fantastic watch, but best paired in a collection with a real dress piece, or something that can do double duty better like the Datejust. My two cents and nothing more. I hope you find what you’re seeking!

I don't see how a TT Sub gold is better with a suit if it's a for a formal occasion that an SS sub looks out of place. I have my dressier Nomos on leather for such occasions.

The simple fact is the watch just might not suit your sense of style. That said, you may want to keep the Submariner for casual wear and perhaps select a different model for more formal attire.

Datejust is better suited (pun intended) for your style.

Great assessment, thank you. I am looking at TT 36mm datejust for dress- The Sub suits my daily style, but I cant seem to dress it up with other suits, ties & black Tux ,thank you for your input-

Happens to all of us. Rolex's do get boring especially if your entire collection is just Rolex.
imho after having watches my entire life. Variety is the spice of life. |

Very true, I was looking at 36MM datejust with some gold for the dress, I do appreciate subtle look, so I do like the leather idea too- maybe reverso or something-

Good point, what other things do you recommend, currently have a SS Capeland S chrono Baume & an Oris 43mm Goliath Aquis ..the thing is a monster, I rarely wear it, but got it at a good deal, so my watch case is enjoying it more than I am.

Very few semi-formal or formal attire events taking place these days under the sea. Fortunately you need not wear a submariner to such events! Perhaps that awesome Cellini triple date moonphase?

You need another watch for special occasion. Sub is perfect for everyday but not suitable for dress up event.

Like others have said, sounds like you need to get yourself a nice dress watch.

I thought the same and got a 36 mm Explorer (and then a Speedmaster). I wear those more often during the week to work. Still love my Sub but the others are better in a dressy(ish) situation. For a black tie event, which I basically never attend, I’d wear something simple with a black leather strap.

You may find the 36mm too small coming from the sub. The DJ41 is very well proportioned.

Sorry, but I don’t see it.
If you feel the need, save for something dressier, but don’t let go of the Sub, you’ll miss it. |

Get an OP39 white unless you need the PCL and date, in which case get a datejust.

Personally I think the Sub ND would look great with a black suit even a Tux... what do I know though, James Bond I guess is the only one that can pull that off. |

I agree with adding a DJ41. If l were a one watch guy I'd choose the Gmtll Ln over all.

I get where you're coming from. And I feel the same way. I have other sport models, but not the LN Sub (date or no date). It's a bit too casual for my own taste. I love the watch and admire it on other wrists, but it just doesn't sing to me as much as other models. Heck, I love me a Milgauss, while others think it looks like dog poop. Not all models are going to be for everyone. Wear what YOU like and rock it hard
