Regardless of BLNR, if I owned a watch for a year and haven't worn it, I would get rid of it.

Exactly...how great is the speedy if you haven't worn it for a year? Flip the speedy and save up the BLNR. In the grand scheme of things, BLRN is like a fraction of a college tuition costs...a small fraction!

get the watch- school is so expensive that $10k one way or other will not make much difference. And if it does, you can guilt trip your kids by selling it at that time.

I wouldn't sell the 114060. Being you've had it for 3 years and state that you love it, I think you'd regret it.
Also, I wouldn't make any moves until you feel comfortable. |

Sell speedy and get blnr. Not wearing it for a year constitutes sale unless it has sentimental value to you.

For me, the children will always come first. Funds aside, I would sell the Omega and get the BLNR and call it a day and then focus on continuing to save for the children.

This!
Agreed. CANNOT get any more classic nor collectible than these two. A BLNR is sweet, but it's not that sweet... and will it be as collectible as a Speedy ten years from now after the hoopla is gone? Not likely. Besides, they're not rare and you can always get one later on. Be content, save your money, and then it'll mean more when you pick on up later.

Why not sell both and get the BLNR without any worries? For a two watch collection, BLNR and Sub are too similar, IMHO.
If down the road you have the other projects taken care of, then add to the BLNR. |

Not a lot of love for the Speedy, huh?
I think my comment about the Kid's education was taken a little too seriously. I just wanted to illustrate that I have responsibilities and buying a Rolex is a non-trivial purchase for me. I’m starting to agree with the ‘forget the other brands’ idea. Those would just be watches that I wouldn’t wear. I think I’ll wear the Speedy for a couple weeks and see how I feel. It was my First ‘serious’ watch purchase. I got it used from a watch store (and probably over paid) And honestly I bought it because I was uncomfortable spending so much on the Sub. So, I was ‘testing the waters’. Then after having the Speedy for a month I just went and bought the Sub, no problem. If I could do it again; I’d probably just go get the Sub and wouldn’t even bother with the Speedy. But since I have it now, it feels wasteful to get rid of it because I wouldn’t get what I paid for it back. |

I own both the BLNR and the Zenith El Primero and will tell you both are great watches but the BLNR gets more wrist time in my rotation.

Also depends on what kind of Speedy it is. I just flipped a 3570 plus some more for a nice 16600 SD.. do not regret it. A brand new or modern Speedy has no character.

You have a great and versatile combo! Buy some cool rally straps for the Speedy pro and it will feel like a new watch ( have a look at Heuerville). The BLNR is a great watch, but looks the same as the SubC to the uninitiated therefore matches your clothes exactly the same way also. For me, watches are partly about the way they make you feel when you wear them and partly about how they match the clothes/outfit you wear. The BLNR can wait and the kids need your attention!

True, but as far as college is concerned I think kids are better students if they have a skin in the game. What I mean is if they have to pay for all or part of their college. My Dad told me he would not pay a cent for my education. I got it myself and studied hard as a result.
My niece and nephew both had their college paid for and both got kicked out of school for grades and partying too much. Get your Rolex. |

I bought my Dad a new Rolex for his 80th. He taught me values and was a leader amongst men. Sorry for the quick hijack.

Keep what you have, get the blnr, JLC, Tudor and Zenith.
The kids can take student loans. If not, don't ever call yourself a WIS. Kidding aside, sell the Speedy to help fund the blnr. You haven't worn it in a year. |

Sell the Speedy and tell the kids they'll have to work part-time to pay for expenses during college as you're only covering tuition!!
I had to cover my own tuition and expenses while working my way through college so you're kids are going to be fine!!
