Were you deceived by the Date Function mentality?

Quite the opposite for me. Had a non-date watch for years. Once I got a date version I realised I prefer it since I do find I use it quite a bit.

quite often ... not necessarily daily but enough that I need it ...
plus I like the Cyclops!!!!

Not going to lie the cleanliness of the sub without the date is top notch BUT having the date on there is extremely convenient and the date doesn't stop the watch from still looking like a luxury watch IMO.

I wanted a no date for the longest time, but ended up getting a 16610. I dont think I could comfortably switch to wearing a watch without a date now. I daily wear my watch and go to it for the time and date instead of my phone like 99% of the population.

I hate to admit it but the date function is so important to me during the week that it is a must have.

20 years ago the date was very useful. Today with smartphones, being in front of a computer all day, and the fact I don't write checks and most stuff I do is electronic I could care less about the date function. I don't buy watches based on features anymore. I buy because of the look, style, history etc. No regrets going from a sub to Daytona what so ever. 20 years ago I may have thought differently. I don't even use the chronograph as the timers on my iPhone are way better then any chronograph. To be honest the Apple watch is the most useful functional watch Ive ever owned but Id wear the Daytona any day over it lol. Been wearing the Daytona everyday for the last 3 months and don't miss the date 1 bit.

Ditto. All my watches have at least the date function. I love it and use that feature regularly.

I use the date function regularly....on my phone !!!

I have date and no date watches and I prefer no date. In fact most of the time I can't even be bothered to set the date on my watch, I find it a pain in the backside to be honest.

Love the fact I pick up my SubC, set the time and I am done.

No, quite the opposite. I find the supposed "dial symmetry" argument a bit ridiculous. We're not talking a Richard Mille crazy dial, just a date function

Glad that I didn't get caught up in the whole Submariner can't include a date thing. It's not a piece of art I own, but a functional daily time piece

Apart from my Speedy's, all my watches have at least a date, and I really miss the day window on my Seikos as well, so for me, a watch seems incomplete without at least a date.

There's room for all and no dates are definitely cleaner, but overall I do like knowing the date at the flick of a wrist.

I agree with most here that the dateless watches appear cleaner and more symmetrical but for me, I like the look of the date watches and I use the functionality often. Its really useful when I've traveled halfway around the world and I need to date an arrivals form or other document as I arrive.

Nope. Every time I've worn a no date watch, I've looked at it for a date window that's not there. Especially at my law practice where i sign and date stuff multiple times a day.

Worn both over the years. Three of the current Rolex line up have dates and two do not. Prefer Subs without date, but I do find myself looking for the date occasionally when wearing a watch sans date. Not a big deal my phone is close as is my desk calendar and outlook.

Started with a 114060 then got a BLNR. I was wrong about the date function. I need a date. Will trade the 114060 soon for a new DJ41. Now when I wear the 114060 and need date reminder I forget its not there.

It's all personal preference IMHO. One could argue why even wear a watch since everyone has a cell phone readily available. I personally like to have the date function, and I use it all the time. Back to my comment on cell phones, you will be surprised at the amount of people who don't wear a watch anymore-just do a visual survey of other drivers while commuting from/to work and maybe 3 out of 10 will have a watch on.

when I go from Subs (date), Ex 2 or any other date watch to Daytonas

That happens to me more than you would believe looking for the date and realizing it's not there



Regarding days of the week, I actually get so busy that I easily forget if it's Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday towards the middle week. I would love a WG Green Dial DD actually

Sometimes I would LOVE a date complication at work, and I have decided a second watch will DEFINITELY have the date(maybe even the day if funding permits); but I got the feelings OP describes more over a watch with GMT complication than the date. I know I don't really neeeeed it and probably won't use it; but let's face it... I own a Daytona, and I'm not racing anyone. I think I can find a use for it if I have it

I like the look of a no-date symmetrical dial.
I like the usefulness of a date function and use it quite often.

I thought i had to have a date, but my speedy pro showed me how nice it can be without it. Better symmetry on dial, easier to set. Not only do you not have to worry about the date, but AM/PM doesn't matter either, just set it and go.

Ultimately with my desk job, i can just glance at the computer for the date. Same argument i guess applies to the time, but i love my watches!
