Ay possible 15400 may be nicer but it surely will be more expensive.

I received my 15300 black dial today and I'm just amazed with it.. For me the size is perfect, wouldn't want it any bigger. It is by far the highest quality watch I have owned, just amazing. I also own a 233 which I love too, but if push came to shove and I had to pick between the AP or Pam I'd go with the AP. it just seems a more special watch. Yes the 233 has some nice features as the 8 day movement, power indicator and GMT function but the AP has that something little extra.

Not at all. Solid one piece case only accessible by removing the bezel. The 5402SA came out in 1972 following the first batch of the 5402ST (Stainless Steel only) models. Is known as the AP Jumbo at 39mm with caliber 2121 developed by JLC in commission by the divine trinity of 'Haute Horlogerie' (Patek, VC and Audemars Piguet). Extremely thin case but spectacular looking. BTW mine is under the 300 serial number.

I'm a big fan of both.
The saphire caseback and in-house movement make the 15300 very appealing and the ROC gives a sportier look but still soooo classy.

That is one nice watch, One of the best TT I have ever seen!

Had a blue AP 15300, never quite bonded with it. At first I thought maybe it was the color of the dial, but eventually realized that I didn't really like any of the dials. This was after lusting after the watch for 2 years. I thought it was a great watch on paper, fit wonderfully, loved the Gerald Genta history and the 60 hour power reserve, but in the end I felt I should've bought the ROC instead.

Just my $.02. Id vote ROC, then PAM 233, then 15300. I saw the pic of the new 15400 on TZ and it looks pretty much the same to me, with some minor differences in the details. 41mm and 39mm seem pretty close.

I would prefer the AP. One thing I did notice was how much smaller the 15300 or ROC look on the wrist relative to the diver.

I have a 15300 blue dial. Great watch can't recommend it highly enough. Wears bigger than its size but since you have a diver won't be a problem at all.

All the dials are lovely but the blue is slightly more geared towards casual than suits/office attire (imo). It really is a versatile watch though!

Have you considered the 15202 (jumbo)? Very similar but the different movement and thinner bracelet make it slightly more elegant (again imo). It does lack stop seconds and quick date, but it's as close to the original RO that you can find new nowadays. The movement is also spectacular.

I'm not a fan of putting existing mechanical calibers into ever larger cases---it becomes very obvious that the original caliber was not designed for the "growth spurt" the manufacturer engineered. Case in point: the AP 3120---it first debuted in the 38mm Jules Audemars case where it's proportions were absolutely perfect. Next, it found its way to the 15300 Royal Oak, where it still works very well as the case is not much larger in diameter than the JA.

While I remain interested to see it, I think the 15400 will make the fine 3120 movement look undersized if a sapphire back is employed---this is even more the case for the Offshore Diver, but AP fortunately kept a solid back on it to suit its sport/dive character best. Another downside to these upsized watches using the same movement is that the date wheel just keeps migrating farther inboard towards the hands. That's something I personally don't find pleasing, but YMMV.

Point being? Go 15300, if you are thinking of a 3120-based Royal Oak! As has been noted, they may not be available much longer.

The Jumbo it nice too a few bucks more then the 15300.

Personally I would wait and get the Safari. It is the perfect blend of sport and dress and is pure class! Love the cream dial and brown hornback- so classy looking.
