I would not factor it into my evaluation. I think if your suit fits, I really should not see it...unless you want me to see it...???

My suit fits! And I'm pretty sure the starch on my shirt has put scratches on the case!

Director of client growth for a fairly large lending company. It's a $15B company... don't think I'm going to out watch anyone.

All depends on how you wear it.
Personally, when I'm at work I try to keep my watches tucked under my sleeve. I don't wear them for others... |

How you wear your watch hugely influences whether the hiring manager even notices it or the conclusions he/she draws about you.
For example, if it happens to peak out from your shirt sleeve as you move during normal conversation, their reaction if they even notice the watch might be "nice watch" and nothing else. If it's wearing you and you are pulling your sleeve up, leaning forward so your sleeve rides up your arm to expose the watch.... in other words showing it off, I would expect a not so flattering opinion to form in the hiring manger's mind. |

Not worth the risk. I'm 31 and wear a Speedmaster pro and leave the BLNR at home. All it takes is for one person to think "jumped up little prick" and you don't get the job.
A friend's brother who is a senior partner at a major law firm and told him not to wear his tag grand carrera to interviews when we were in our mid 20's. I follow that advice. |

I don't know why some people aren't aware of this, (or pretend not to be) but when you wear a 'flashy' Rolex, you are making a statement.
Even if you don't think you are "making a statement", it doesn't change what others will think. It's difficult to wear a 'bling' item of any sort, and not have people thinking you're making a statement. If you know how to pull it off fine, but I suspect with that model and you being only 30 years old, chances are you won't. Go to the interview without the watch. |

Gotta be who you are! If you hide your Rolex during an interview it's not the real you. Besides, attitude is what really matters. Plus, I'd also give you points for being confident in who you are and for all I know it was a gift from your wife, parents, etc. Plus, if a potential mgr is so shallow as to care about your watch then you don't want the job - do you?

I wore my Milgauss to a recent interview. I was offered the job the next day. I don't think anyone even looked at my watch.
If you don't get a job because of the watch you wear, consider yourself blessed that you're not stuck working for a douchebag for the foreseeable future. |

Ok, look. All joking aside, don't wear it. Especially the bluesy. Unless you're interviewing at Pierce & Pierce. I'm serious.

Let's see.......I am getting ready for the job interview......
-put on freshly starched crisp white bespoke french cuff shirt -put on bespoke navy blue suit -Black Hermes belt and yellow Hermes tie -Black Prada shoes -Timex.......nah........don't think so. While I've only owned Rolex watches for 6 weeks, that is how I dressed for my last interview, and quite frankly, some of my previous non-Rolex watches were quite attractive and I doubt anyone cared. You don't get the interview unless your resume and references met the baseline job requirements........always remember that, and the purpose of the interview is also to see if the prospective employer meets your requirements as well. If my wearing a Rolex (or anything else really) becomes an issue for them in my mind, I won't work for them. I've hired lots of people in the past 2 decades and if I have two identical applicants, but one presents themselves better, guess who get's the phone call ? The first business book I ever read 35 years ago was "Dress for Success"............ Last edited by KDS777; 13 April 2017 at 01:16 PM.. Reason: " |

I have a bluesey, have had a number of interviews recently and never even thought about wearing it. It is a flashy piece, whichever way you want to look at it. The yellow gold really makes a statement and you want to give off the best impression in an interview as well.
I'm a headhunter by trade also and I can state that presentation is extremely important in all aspects from body language, attire, tone of voice. You are not presenting yourself exactly in an interview but the business side of yourself, otherwise you can turn up in jeans and a homer simpson t-shirt I wear my 2nd watch, a Piaget which is flashy in some aspects but definitely a lot more low key than a Rolex with yellow gold |

Separate from the topic of which watch to wear to an interview, there is a fine line between confidence and "cockiness" (or arrogance or copping an attitude). This applies not just to a job interview, but also how you interact with your co-workers and clients.
Hiring managers have a perception or mental image of the type of person they want to hire. If you fit their type, they will make you an offer. Otherwise, they will offer the job to someone else. However best of luck in your upcoming job interviews. |

Cockiness isn't determined by a watch.. it's determined by the attitude on display....

If you think no one will notice, wear it and prepare for a rude awakening. There is a reason business attire exists and you are expected to wear a suit to an interview. You are scanned upon entering the premises by everyone who works there and you can be sure that they will be judging your every decision.

Depends on the company and the job. Sales is a different animal. Sales people are goal/money driven and like to flaunt their success....generally. Not a bad thing in my opinion.
Yes. I would notice but I tend to see what watches people wear in general. Would not change my opinion of a candidate. Hard to say not knowing the field or position. |

I bring on a couple guys/girls every other month to see whats out there, if they are good I keep em on board. I am pretty cut throat, I always pay the full days wage but I have sent people home in less than 5 minutes.
One guy who was a referral and very young kind of rubbed me the wrong way. But he showed up on time and is good in a wedding setting. So I sort of used him. A week or so ago we did a high end surprise party, the client was wearing a gold daytona, I started to talk to him about it. Found out he was into watches, spoke a long time with him about them, he doesn't know much, but does know a small amount about Rolex's. 2 days later I gave him a $300 invicta I wore when I was his age, told him to keep working hard and that we are gonna use him more. Moral of the story is I think it can be common ground, it's not like your showing up with a presidential pave. A bluesy is something a WIS would take notice of and be a positive, if the hiring manager doesn't recognize it instantly he would never be able to read the dial so it doesn't matter. BTW the last 2 cars I bought of a guy with a datejust II, he has no idea I knew what it was, I was wearing a casio steve |

I think the $ in the job makes the difference.
If you're interviewing to be a bartender- probably not a good idea to show up with a Rolex on - the boss would think you're stealing from the till. But if you're making 250k plus - the guy would expect you to have some luxury items. Quite the contrary - you get judged for NOT wearing expensive shoes or having a blah blah blah. Anyway - wear the watch! |

This particular position has 27 direct reports and carries a target of $2.5B year over year growth. The words " we don't want a F@&$'ing snowflake, we need someone to make shit happen" came out of the EVP's mouth during the phone screen. I think I'm expected to show up in a clean car, fresh suit, fresh hair cut, nice shoes and a nice watch.
I have hired several people to work with me across several different industries. A clean car says a lot about someone. You may drive a champagne colored 1995 Toyota Camry but just because it's older doesn't mean it has to be dirty! |
