that's insane!!! maybe I should have picked it up then...

Exactly. Why is there a need to wait when they're just going to charge you they grey market price anyways?

These ADs are getting away with this kind of behavior because people are feeding that greed by paying these ridiculous markups. But when the economy tanks, they'll be begging for business again while forgetting how they screwed their loyal customers over.

Maybe I should report them. Nothing will probably happen to them...

I was fully ready to pay $500000NTD had I found one at an AD but like I said I called AD’s all the way from Taipei down to Kaohsiung. No one had it in stock, which means people are snatching em up at $500000NTD.

AFAIK, All AD @ Taiwan. they do charge you premimun. not only Taiwan but China, hongkong as well.

The price B&W both was 495k last year.

Then price goes up to 498k at beginning 0f 2017.

Due to SS shortage now, they might raise up recently.

OP, that's how the daytona game has been played since 2000 as I know.

There are many ppl on wait list. AD will only show you that take it or leave it.

If you want to get it @MSRP in TW, I guess you will need to wait another 2008 economic recession.

It's interested. which AD charge you black for 500k?

Wow that is unfortunate! Take your business to an AD that actually appreciates you for your business!

Singapore used to be the same. I think they are not allowed anymore but this results in premium SS sport watches like Daytona , Hulk... ect being offer only to their regular clients.

In KL i was told that to buy Daytona I must purchase PM model at full list price first. Not happening.

My brother called me this morning saying a lady at the dealer said they just got a black dial Daytona in and we are on top of the list. Even though white dial is my first choice, I would take a black one any day. I immediately asked my brother to contact the lady and told her we will pay a deposit over the phone to hold it and will pick it up the next day.
MSRP in Taiwan is about NT400,000 (USD 13,000). My brother asked if 20% deposit is enough. She said sure, that would be NT100,000 (USD 3600). That's when my brother asked the question, "how much is it?" The lady responded "sticker price is NT400,000, we are selling it for NT500,000".

I told him to tell her we are not interested. But I was pretty upset. At least in US, the dealers do not overcharge.
Trust me, ADs in the USA play some pretty mean games as well.

In some cases it can even more nasty... just playing hide the ball, not selling to you unless you buy a PM piece at full retail, etc. I'd actually say that being asked to buy a PM piece at full retail to get a Daytona at list is really the same thing, if not worse, given the kind of discounts one can get on PM models!

Well, at least the US dealers that I dealt with just tell you that they don't have the watch, or tell you no discount. I haven't met one that will overcharge you on a new watch. (used watch is something else since they don't have to play by the Rolex rule).

These add on deals are going to become more widespread with hard to get models, in countries where prices can't be hiked they will look to make you buy another piece or two.

Wait. Staying on a list to pay a premium? That is just horrible! If I am paying premium, I want it tomorrow!

Just got back from Taiwan (2nd to 9th Nov). Went to Rolex in 101, asked if they have a DaytonaC and they said they don't have any in stock. Never asked for pricing since I wasn't planning to buy one anyway as I much prefer the 116520 after trying the 116500 multiple times (my colleague wears one). Charging premiums is not an uncommon practice here in Asia I guess.

My local AD has a used black dial 500 for $16,400.

Sorry to hear they did this; time to align with a different dealer. Obviously customer loyalty means little to the current on.

Correction, staying on a list to pay a lower premium. Greys in the country would be asking more.

On principle, I would have not purchased either. I want one but I’m just not willing to pay the ridiculous premium to ADs or grey dealers.

Ouch! That is not the way business should be done. MSRP from an AD should be a firm price, IMHO -- I hope you get another one sometime soon!

I would have totally caved and bought it. With the way things are looking right now with the 2+ wait list and absolutely ridiculous resale prices. At least it’d be direct from AD...and considering how much they’re going for out in the wild now $500000NTD is a ‘steal’.
