On occasion someone will comment on my watch and very seldom is it a negative. I always thank the person for any complement. If some one is negative I will respond in a way that puts it back on them.

Think it is you. Circumstance definitely dictate awkwardness but a polite compliment or comment usually leads to a nice watch conversation or if nothing more a quick thank you. Though these interactions happen few and far in between. |

Does anyone else find it very uncomfortable when someone notices your watch?
People do “notice” other’s watches, especially a Rolex. Whether they approach you and comment about it depends on the wearer and situation, as a post already said.
But it will bother me if the person asks: Is it real? I probably would just shrug, give him a look, and walk away. |

I don't care what other people think. I am 21 and am wearing a two-tone GMT almost daily. I think so far 5 people noticed my watch in slightly over a year. It is surprising to me since I thought two-tone Rolex is more noticeable, but I recently pointed it out to a person who saw me wear it for almost 4 months daily and he didn't notice until I pointed it out (I wasn't flashing, I put it on strap recently and asked for his input if it looked better this way or before, on bracelet.). 3 of those who noticed were in watch boutiques, one was wearing a GMT himself. For the one person left who noticed, he asked if it was real to which I promptly responded yes. I don't care what he thinks to himself. Watch is for me to wear and enjoy, if you enjoy wearing your watch, then what anyone thinks doesn't matter. If you don't, then find a watch you would enjoy.

The is it real question happened more when I was younger. At my age now with my profession nobody would ever ask me that if that makes sense.

This is one of the greatest compliments someone could get about a watch, IMO. Great watch, regardless of brand recognition!

Timely thread. I was at a dinner party last weekend wearing my 116610LN and during dinner someone said to me, “I’ve been looking at your watch all night is that a real Rolex?” That was rude enough, but then he followed it up with, “Could you get me that exact watch but fake?”

I think the only time I would have a problem if someone noticed which Rolex I was wearing is if they were pointing a pistol at me.

I get much more comments on my Timex and Seiko than on my Rolex 1500. It doesn't bother me, I actually think it's funny.

I've been asked if it's a Rolex and I just reply "Yes"! and don't disclose any more information. I've noticed some look at my watch when talking with them and makes me feel good as I wear it with Pride......

No one has ever noticed any of my watches. We are a very small minority.

So far I have received more comments on cheap Fossil and Bulova department store watches then my SubC. I think the Rolex sport watches with their brushed steel and tool watch appearance don’t elicit many comments except from other watch enthusiasts. Maybe it’s different with the dressier models such as the DD or DJ or TT’s. Not sure.

Those of you saying no one notices (like in Padi’s real world) must think there aren’t many folks into watches. If you’re into watches then you’re likely to notice watches being worn by people around you. I notice people’s watches all the time but I guarantee you they have no idea I’m noticeing because I do it very discretely. So yes, people notice your Rolex probably quite often, even if they don’t say anything to you about it. In the real world.

Just reply; If you can't tell the difference, what does it matter?

No one ever asked me "is it real," few times people noticed it was easy. Best notice your watch moment - was wearing my BLNR on an elevator with 2 other people. All three of us were wearing BLNR's. This was in late 2014 (iirc) so the watch was pretty new.

The only people that have ever commented on a watch I was wearing were genuinely interested in watches and were very complimentary. Did I mind? Not at all. This hasn't happened more than a few times if that.
If someone made a comment questioning the authenticity of a Rolex I was wearing, yes I would feel uncomfortable and move away. |

The guy in the Burger King drive through window admired my Patek. Wanted to know where to buy one like it. None of my Rolex watches, even the YG DD, have ever been commented upon.

Never been asked about my Rolex watches. Have received comments on my Speedmaster and Monta, and simply thank them for noticing and carry on.

It's rare but it does happen. I don't flaunt but when it does happen it's meant as a compliment and interest. Ok, 99% of the time but it does make you size someone up real quick which I call street smarts where ever you are but nothing to be paranoid over.

Never been an issue with the Rolex. I had an IWC Aquatimer 2000 and got comments all the time.

Agreed 99% of the folk out there have no real interest in watches and wouldn't notice a Rolex if they fell over one
