Has anyone mentioned druggists?
Dad would have a "waxed container" of the C-word on his shelf at his pharmacy to dispense for nausea.
Never did he have a container of the P-word. Because of this, when I choose a cola, its Coke, though I thoroughly dislike the intake of high fructose corn syrup! I just researched (? searched : ) that Costco and Walmart are selling Mexican Coke and that its made with pure cane sugar! http://www.seriouseats.com/2007/05/c...ican-coke.html The formula for Coke was created by pharmacist John Pemberton in 1885, and had coca leaves as an ingredient. Ever watched the Mythbusters Cola episode? They debunked most of the Cola myths Why not go for Coke Zero? No sugar, no calories. I only drink Coke on very warm days, usually with lots of ice. To end my nonsense, I present you this:

I don't drink soda much in general because of the taste, but I have glass bottles of Coke and Dublin Dr. Pepper in the fridge. Those taste so good especially when adding some good rum to the coke and XO cognac to the DP.

SHARP CHEDDAR?! MEDIUM RARE?! I haven't eaten yet and my mouth is watering! The greens detract from this picture perfect delight, though.

Now that is reference to war, and hence a indirect but subtle link to guns and/or knives. And all of this stated to a mod! I think the sugar deprivation has gone to your head.

Jim, it's hard at first, but definitely worth it! I've been pop-free for over a year now, and though water does get boring, I chug it back anyway. I'm very often dehydrated, so bring on the water. It's a great choice for your health You have my support!

I gave up softdrinks as a new years resolution after consuming a fair amount of pop on a daily basis. We had a BBQ at work at the end of February, and I had a can of Pepsi cause the water fountain was broken. It was weird, made my mouth numb, stomach felt weird afterwards. After that I've only had a couple of rye and gingers here and there. Probably one of the better decisions I've made. Dropping the softdrinks, drastically changing my diet and occassional exercise allowed me to drop about 30lbs by mid march, but I've started breaking some of the rules I set for myself, and have put 5lbs back on. Weathers getting nice though, and I just bought myself a new road bicycle, so I cant wait to get out riding again.

When I want to cut back on soft drinks (in particular my Coke Zero habit), I will basically drink something like Perrier (bubbly water). I find that it makes a great substitute for the bubbly of the soft drink, and I feel like I'm still drinking one. Downside, I drink a lot of that stuff and it gets expensive. Upside I tend to feel better once I adjust to not drinking that much Zero.

I am ashamed to admit it but I am a Pepsi addict. I know it's not good for me but it's a bad habit to break. I do drink caffeine free but am still getting the HFCS. So I know somethings got to give and I'm going to have to find the willpower to quit!!!

It's a round, red hard candy with a very spicy cinnamon flavor - sort of like a jawbreaker.

Okay...Day 3 of the no sugar thing and I'm in a rotten mood....sugar cravings are making me miserable...it's only been 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last night I treated myself to a bowl of satsuma and sliced kiwi fruit and a big glass of natural 1000% pomegranate juice....nice but not as nice as chocolate and cold coke. Absolutely crying out for something bad for me to eat but holding off... Here's my daily plan....(borrowed heavily from Gillian McKeith) Breakfast...plain yoghurt and a small malt fruit cereal bar (low cal/ low fat). Glass of water and Perhaps glass of juice before cycling. Mid Morning, handful of unsalted plain nuts and raisins and mug of green tea. Lunch...Large Bowl of "Sherries" cereal with semi skimmed milk. Mid afternoon...Mug of green tea and a couple of glasses of water. Dinner...white meat or fish with brown rice/brown pasta or vegetables. Couple more glasses of water. Dessert....Pomegrate juice. Sliced fruits, natural yoghurt. Vitamins...Green Tea supplement, Co Enzyme Q10, Glucusamine Sulphate, Astralagus, St Johns Wort, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Zinc. Exercise...light...6 mile cycle per day (3 miles to work, 3 miles back) 2 1/2 mile walk after work. I did the same diet plan...no sugars, lo fat and no white refined & light exercise and I dropped about 50 pounds in a year before our wedding...unfortunately I've put it all back on since then. This year I have a goal....I'm getting back into MTB and I might buy a turbo trainer for those dark, cold wet nights. The goal is that in two years I am fit enough to easily take part in a competition or charity ride on a shiny new mountain bike!!!!! Here's hoping! J |

Pssst - you have inspired me to give sugar as well. Today is day 1 for me. In fact, it's only been about 2 hours.
I really love Gillian. Her nutrition ideas are right on. I have not formulated a plan as of yet, but I've been in the habit of eating poorly the past few months, and it's catching up to me. I noticed that my jeans were feeling a little tight yesterday! Keep it up!! (plus, I find it inspiring...)

Keep it up Jim, you're doing well
Go a little easy on the exercise though. That sounds like a lot of daily miles to take on right away. Give yoga, a go. I do some everyday, and its great. Puts your back and shoulders into alinement, keeps all your joints supple, and leaves you with a peaceful feeling. Highly recommend yoga to anyone. Helps stave off creaky bones in old age. mark |

The pills are a bit of a hassle but they are Gillian's recommendations for metabolic stabilism during the early days of dieting...and they do work Old Gillian is a bit of a grump but it's common sense really...input less than you expend and cut down on processed or "manufactured" foods. If it seems it'll be bad for you...it probably is. J |
