Keep up the fight. A Daytona, and Sub make the perfect duo.

Thank you everyone for the responses and suggestions. I’m going to keep approaching my AD and see how it goes. Since it seems that a long wait is a possibility, I’ll also keep looking at some Omegas and Tudors since they have them readily available as well. Though I already have a dive watch, the Pelagos looks amazing. Even the BB GMT looks pretty nice. The newer white dial seamaster also looks stunningly with the black band as well. Diversifying the collection sounds like a great idea and many other good suggestions will be taken into consideration.

I certainly won’t rush to purchase just anything but if something speaks to me before another SS model becomes available then I’ll make that purchase. Heck if the wait is long enough and the first watch is reasonably priced I can even get two watches. Just can’t go overboard to keep the wife happy since after all our new baby will have to come before first. Thank you all once again.

I have paired Submariner with Zblue. Maybe worth to consider

I would for sure go with the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m 42 in blue, because of the ceramic dial with the markers that pop out of the dial itself. On top of this it’s a daily wearer with great quality and just an awesome look to it!

Rolex is probably the worst brand to celebrate a milestone as it's nearly impossible to time the purchase. It sounds great in theory to tell the sales rep that you're celebrating a moment in hope that they'll try their best for you but it doesn't really work that way. If Rolex is what you're after and you have a timeframe going grey may be your only choice.

I say wait it out if you can, and go grey if you cant. There is a difference between getting what you want and getting something because an occasion.

I had and sold the ceramic dial SM300m. I would not recommend.
Tudor (esp BB58) look great but I dont like the rivetted bracelets.
Chronomaster sport looks cool...

But why not a speedmaster moonwatch? Perfect complement to the sub, under 10k, great history... etc etc etc. Can have it on bracelet or strap. Goes with everything.

Speedy or one of the rolex watches you actually want.

When I originally purchased my Sub I had said a BLNR or Milgauss would be my next watch. Now I can’t help but also admire the DeepSea, BLRO and of course Daytona. I would be over the moon with any one of them but realistically, I know the chance of me buying a hot and in demand SS sport model is slim to none in the Chicago area with no AD relationship.

That being said, I have also started to look at a Seamaster 300m and several Tudor models that would actually be attainable. I haven’t seen it in person but the zenith chronomaster sport also looks quite nice. My dilema lies in possibly waiting for a miracle or going with another brand. I’m curious as to what path others have chosen during this time of Rolex drought. What other watches have you guys bought in the meantime?

I would like this next watch to celebrate the upcoming birth of my second child so it’ll be a special purchase for me. Sorry for the lengthy post and thank you for reading.

A few things to consider:

-No reason it has to be a second Rolex but if that’s what you really want, get it.
-Consider a 36mm, like white dial DJ or silver OP (classic sizes and probably easier to get).
-If it must be 40+ my vote would be dark blue OP41).
-In terms of aesthetic, seriously consider the blue dial YM40.
-Take a drive up to WI; you could visit three of the four ADs there in a (long) day (of those three the two I’ve visited have really nice staff and others on here say great things about the third).

It’s only a “Daytona copy” due to a combination of Daytona hype and poor knowledge of history: the bottom line is that the Daytona probably wouldn’t be what it is today without the Zenith El Primero movement. It’s what was inside the Daytona when it started blowing up and is one of the finest chronograph movements in the world. Even when Zenith had less than impressive watch designs, everyone still respected that line of movements.

Can’t go wrong with a datejust. Or aqua terra if budgeting.
