Quest for a second timepiece
After 5 wonderful years with my Submariner, I’m ready for another watch and have started the quest by visiting my closest AD. When I originally purchased my Sub I had said a BLNR or Milgauss would be my next watch. Now I can’t help but also admire the DeepSea, BLRO and of course Daytona. I would be over the moon with any one of them but realistically, I know the chance of me buying a hot and in demand SS sport model is slim to none in the Chicago area with no AD relationship.
That being said, I have also started to look at a Seamaster 300m and several Tudor models that would actually be attainable. I haven’t seen it in person but the zenith chronomaster sport also looks quite nice. My dilema lies in possibly waiting for a miracle or going with another brand. I’m curious as to what path others have chosen during this time of Rolex drought. What other watches have you guys bought in the meantime? I would like this next watch to celebrate the upcoming birth of my second child so it’ll be a special purchase for me. Sorry for the lengthy post and thank you for reading. |

What price range are we talking, and what type of watch are you looking for? If it were me, I’d stay away from a seamaster for the simple fact that you have one watch, and it’s a diver. I would lean towards a dressier piece if I were you. The chrono master sport is nice as well and could compliment the sub nicely, but I think you need something without numbers on the bezel. I’d say 10k would be the sweet spot but am definitely willing to put down more for the right watch. As to what type of watch I want that’s the thing I’m open. Hence the broad range. I was lucky enough that when I bought my sub there were so many options I could just go with whatever spoke to me. For plain bezel options I was liking a Milgauss or even OP 41mm but we go back to the scarcity. That chrono master looks amazing. What are your thoughts on it. It’s been hard reading good reviews when it’s described as a Daytona copy. I can appreciate the differences in movement and functionality. |

It’s only a “Daytona copy” due to a combination of Daytona hype and poor knowledge of history: the bottom line is that the Daytona probably wouldn’t be what it is today without the Zenith El Primero movement. It’s what was inside the Daytona when it started blowing up and is one of the finest chronograph movements in the world. Even when Zenith had less than impressive watch designs, everyone still respected that line of movements.

That is gorgeous...and the movement in it is so incredible. I'd love to eventually have one of those. |

My suggestion will differ from others ...............
Milgauss Z-blue or Since you have a Submariner, and not opposed to other brands, go for the iconic three as a base. Rolex Submariner Speedmaster Professional (moon watch) Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso

^ This... a perfect trio, as perfect as it gets in my opinion... However, I could actually substitute the Sub for the Explorer, or not...either way.

Personally I would resist settling on something you don’t really want just because you can get it. You may find it doesn’t satisfy the itch and you’ll be looking for a third watch before long. Good luck! |

Congratulations on your upcoming birth OP, that’s the best incoming of all
Honestly, I’d hold out for what you want. Talk to a few ADs, tell them what the watch is to commemorate and see what they say. You don’t have much to lose, everything to gain and we’ve seen incomings with no prior history recently. Good luck |

Went in on a wim one day and was allowed to out a deposit down on a RG 60th anniversary. As of friday im a proud owner ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would take a serious look at Omega. They are well built watches and actually attainable. The SMP 300 diver and Aqua Terrra are awesome.

Other brands? Well, I love my Tudor BBGMT, but, to be honest, I didn't buy it b/c of the "drought." I just fell in love with it. My advice is to figure out what watch you love, and can't live without, and then go after it. Good luck, |

Quest for a second timepiece
Maybe a Datejust for a more dressy piece? If you are staying with a sports watch and not opposed to getting pre-owned in the secondary market, I say a 5 digit Pepsi GMT 16710. It really is a wonderful piece.
Speedmaster is also a great choice! |

You can start talking to ADs and see what they say. I feel like you won’t get the full truth about timing but if you tell them it’s a birth watch maybe one will have a soft spot and make it happen for you.
Or Definitely go with Omega or Zenith. Both are outstanding brands. I’ve been looking to add the new Speedmaster Moon watch, wow it’s awesome and you can actually read the time in low light. Something that I find difficult on both (black and white) of my SS Daytona’s. AND I love the Sea Master with the display back and outstanding movement. Omega is a great brand snd you can walk in and get one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think an explorer or speedmaster are always great compliments to a sub.

I just bought a Submariner that has become my everyday watch. There a lot of other Rolex models I would like as special occasion pieces, but a used Zenith El Primero Chronomaster will probably be my next purchase. Everything I've read about the movement excites me. A newer Navitimer with one of Breitling's in-house movements would also be pretty high on my list. And if money was no object, a 2003 16610LV.

A blue diver like the Seamaster 300m would be perfect.

I would definitely look at a speedy. On a leather strap it makes a great pair with a sub.

Stick with ROLEX... and get yourself a Datejust or OP with the dial color for which you’ve been secretly lusting.
If you really want another diver, Seamaster Diver 300M (many great colors) or Rolex YM40. And don’t forget about the Root Beer. |

I was in the exact same position. I had a Submariner that was my only watch. I walked into an Omega boutique thinking I was going to buy a blue dial Seamaster 300mp. I tried it on and loved it.
However, I walked out with a Speedmaster Pro sapphire sandwich on a black leather strap instead. :) I still plan on getting the Seamaster too, but it could be a while. I want the new Corvette Stingray C8 with the LT3 and Z51 packages. I’m keeping it cool with watches for now just to smooth things over with the wife. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
