Like others said - it's gonna happen. Worrying about scratches / hairlines will just lessen the enjoyment of ownership.

I've got a tip for you, don't put those awful stickers on that fine timepiece.

In time, I hope you can learn to live with a few 'battle scars'. If only we could stay young and pristine forever!

Nice Bluesy! Try simple green for grime, it seems to work extremely well for me when I apply it

This is very true. I wore this watch for 18 years as a daily and the scratches just became unnoticeable after awhile. When you send it to RSC for service, it will come back looking like new, then you will have another few weeks of stress.
Also, most grays and all ADs will polish before reselling and it’s not really a big factor as these aren’t vintage where ‘unpolished’ is a big deal.
This is mine after RSC service and 18 years of where (I traded it for another recently and got a substantial premium over what I paid, all through AD)…enjoy it!

The polished center of the clasp on any watch will get covered with scratches. That is just a part of the ownership experience. Don't worry about it and you can always polish it down the road if you must.

I ordered some invisishied for my bluesy. Mostly just put it on the clasp and bottom parts of the bracelet. Can't even tell it'd there

Can anyone comment on how easily the five digit two-tone digit Sub/GMT bracelets scratched? Seems like their design would incur less scratching than the six digit bracelets.

PCL 18k is 18k. It’s very soft but also very easy to buff out scratches using a cape cod or sunshine cloth. Considerably more easy to buff out than PCL made out of 904l steel.
The issue is the center 18k cladding down the center of the newer clasp. It’s a scratch magnet and just a thin piece of 18k welded to the SS clasp.

I was like that when I got my GMT. I was being very careful but no matter how careful I was scratches were inevitable. Just staring too long will scratch the PCLs . Enjoy ! You can always have RSC polish when its time for service if it really bothers you.

You came all this way, now enjoy wearing it. Don't worry about that section, it can be hit with a cape cod cloth or something down the line. You can wipe it with a nice microfiber in the meantime. Or the bottom of your Tshirt like a normal person!

Better not get it scratched!! It’ll become one of those totally devalued Subs with use marks on it that you see selling for $5000 less than a shiny one. No no, don’t be that guy, put stickers on it keep it nice for the next owner to enjoy, do the right thing.

Wear your watch to death and don't worry about it. Not so long ago I sold a very beaten old Sub to a grey dealer. It was on their website 4 days later looking MINT, and " hardly worn". Enjoy your watch mate. And good choice on the new bluesy.

Yeah lol..

But on a serious note, you mentioned to keep your investment in good condition in case you need to resell.. the condition won't matter a jot if it has some scratches or not, infact it will be expected to have marks on it being a pre-owned watch. It won't make any difference to the value if the clasp has scratches or the sides have marks or little dent in a lug. I see horribly polished worn watches selling for same/more than the one next to it with less wear. A dealer will polish or refurbish it regardless, whatever he has to do to make it look mint (he'll need to erase the stickers and grime outline from the links and clasp edges).

Stickers are a silly idea in my opinion.. If I saw someone with stickers all over their watch I'd be thinking to myself and probably making false judgements about how they can't afford to wear the watch, they borrowed it or they are very OCD or some other (more than likely wrong) assumptions.

..and they trap dirt too.

Thanks a lot man, your message really did put my mind at ease haha! I think you are right, I will be enjoying the watch and the only reason for the "stickers" is so I can wear it pretty much everyday i.e to work meeting etc without worrying about resting my wrist on my desk! Also a lot of reviews on the PPF is really good, these aren't cheap stickers, for a £100 you would expect quality and from the videos it's hard to tell!

Yes PPF is condom for your watch essentially haha!!

Paint protection film. It’s awesome on vehicles and I do it for all of mine, but it’s not so good on watches.

It’s successful on cars because there’s a much larger surface area and you can wrap the edges (this prevents dirt from collecting). I don’t advocate it for watches because you can’t wrap the edges and it makes the brushed surfaces glossy. The dirt that eventually collects will act as an abrasive. Not to mention it creates an orange peel shine all over and especially on the polished portions, which I find awful for such a high finished timepiece.

If you handle a watch that’s wrapped in these stickers you’ll immediately know what I’m referring to. Watches are viewed at a much closer perspective than a car’s panels so I find the commonly used analogy a bit flawed.

Wrapping the clasp I think is okay because it’s the most susceptible to impact, but anything else I don’t recommend. What about when it comes time for service and polishing? The surfaces won’t match because some have partially wrapped in stickers it’s whole life leading to more material loss.

This is just my opinion, but it’s from someone who is incredibly meticulous about all details. I wouldn’t recommend it personally, but everyone enjoys their watches differently so one should do what they feel most comfortable with.

To the OP, I have sold a dozen or so Rolex's, and to be honest, small scratches on the clasp never really affected the value. Sure, there is a resale different between New In Box and worn for 20 years, but for the most part, scratches (especially on the clasp), don't really have any big impact on the value. Most dealers are going to polish the watch when they get it regardless (if it ends up with a grey dealer).

I'd just wear it as is, and when the time comes and its time to sell it, you can easily get it polished and it will look brand new.
