Brand New Bluesy 2022 - Scratches + Cleaning Tips

Afternoon all!

Biggest smile on my face yesterday when my AD called and I picked up my first every Rolex, wore it for about 2 hours and back in the box, had a little nosey today at it as you do and noticed an immense amount of hairline scratches on the gold section of the watches especially the clasp, I doubt it came like that from Rolex however surely wearing it for a an hr our two wouldn't cause it as well? Any thoughts or perhaps ways to remove it? I've got my PPF coming next week from The Watch Protect Company, around £99 and kind of gutted putting it on now haha!

Perhaps I am been over sensitive but anyone came across anything like this?

Also any cleaning tips prior to putting the PPF from the watch protect company on?

Look forward to hearing from you all!

Thanks!

Congrats on the new timepiece! Those scratches and fine swirl marks on the PCL will come just from wearing it no matter how careful you are. I suggest you don’t worry about every little marks and just enjoy and wear it in good health!

x2!

Please take a step back and simply enjoy your beautiful new watch. Swirls and scratches are just a fact of life. Eventually they will blur into a fine haze anyway. You can get it cleaned up at service if you wish.

Haha I like that approach and will take it on aboard! Don't think I will be servicing a watch that's just over 24 hours old 😭😂 I'm thinking if the clean kit that comes with the PPF kit from watch protect will perhaps help....soon find out!

Also agreed. Especially with YG, these scratches are to be expected. My husband has the TT black Sub (16613, I believe). Enjoy!

I was like that when I got my GMT. I was being very careful but no matter how careful I was scratches were inevitable. Just staring too long will scratch the PCLs . Enjoy ! You can always have RSC polish when its time for service if it really bothers you.

Thanks appreciate it man! I'm definitely over the moon over it, just did not expect the Yellow gold to be so soft to scratches especially as I didn't bang it or anything but I guess you are right!

Hopefully the PPF will protect it more so in the future!

Thanks man!

You can practically hairline scratch those soft PCLs with thin air. The upside is that 24 hours later your watch is unique.

Congratulations. Great watch. And now there's not another one exactly like it.

I wouldnt worry about scratches, protection films will make your watch look fake. Wear it, scratch it and dont worry.

I understand that, however I think for future value as this isn't just a watch for me to enjoy but an investment of sorts, never know where life takes you I am luckily in a position to afford this watch but down the line god knows what may happen and it's nice to know you have a lovely thing on your wrist that has retaining value or even profit😁

The protection film is basically impossible to see unless you look at it very closely and know about it.

Wear it on a strap if you want to keep the bracelet pristine. Personally think it look better too.

Have had the same watch about a month now and have many fine scratches on the gold also. It’s not touched anything but my wrist. Unavoidable and you’ll go mad trying to clean them all up. Just accept it will happen.

One reason for this would be that the common objects and materials you come into contact with are hard enough to scratch both gold and steel.

Unfortunately the silicates / oxides that can inhabit shirt cuffs and counter surfaces are extremely hard and can scratch nearly anything but corundum and diamond.

Just part of wearing a TT watch. I know it’s stressful trying to maintain your investment but at the same time (God forbid) if you were hit by a bus tomorrow would the swirls matter? So go out, enjoy life, and wear your new watch with pride you earned it!!

Stop while you’re ahead, trust me. The clasp will always be the most susceptible to damage.

Folks here do not like the film kits and I’m not a fan either despite wrapping my cars in PPF. The film kits for the watches make the brushed surfaces look glossy and have the orange peel effect. Not to mention it collects dirt on the edges which acts like an abrasive itself. Why take away from all the finishing you paid for?

When you purchase a watch with the sole intention of it being an investment you’re going to get caught up looking for every single mark/nick. It truly takes away from the enjoyment of a watch. Holding value is a great bonus, but it shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

Don’t bother with the film and practice wrist awareness. Any polished surface on a Rolex will get hairlines regardless. Even a long sleeve shirt can cause swirls and damage a fluted bezel.

Hairline scratches cannot be avoided if you wear the watch. But if you have ocd and must have it pristine looking all the time, cape cod wipes work well with hairline scratches. (On Polished parts only. NOT brushed)

this is 100% unavoidable, two tone rolexes get scratches even if you breath on them. the first few weeks are usually the worst because that's when your bracelet fills up with hairlines and swirls but after that it becomes kind of unnoticeable. just enjoy it

This is very true. I wore this watch for 18 years as a daily and the scratches just became unnoticeable after awhile. When you send it to RSC for service, it will come back looking like new, then you will have another few weeks of stress.
Also, most grays and all ADs will polish before reselling and it’s not really a big factor as these aren’t vintage where ‘unpolished’ is a big deal.
This is mine after RSC service and 18 years of where (I traded it for another recently and got a substantial premium over what I paid, all through AD)…enjoy it!

Don't wear it under a sleeve. That accelerates the process.

Never wipe fingerprints off of the gold. Just wash with dawn and water and pat dry.

You can keep PCLs pretty nice if you don't mess with them.
