When my collection was growing I got a Sub date long before my first GMT Master, although I actually prefer the GMT Master and I use its functionality more than I do a diver. Having said that, I love them both enough to own both. I expect that in time you will end up with both of them.

I would (and did) start with the GMT and go from there.

(Humor) As the 'irresponsible' type here on TRF I say get both. You know you want to.

Get what sings to you and that you'll love wearing daily/often.

Man you could have got that GMT for roughly $8k a couple of years ago.

I’d be amazed if they don’t bring it back, get the sub and wait for the LN to return

For a first watch (especially) I'd stay away from a TT. I think it will get 'old' fast.

It’s primarily a question of two-tone vs steel. No wrong answer here. For me, I’d go for the GMT!

Welcome to the forum!

Going a little different direction; I see you’re in New York. Have you considered going to a Rolex AD that is participating in the new CPO program? Just thinking if this is your first watch of many to come, maybe buy a CPO one (knowing you’ll pay a bigger premium) to establish purchase history, then get on the list for a new one? In this strategy I’d pick up the discontinued GMT first, then get on the list for the TT sub. In the short run it’ll cost you more money but if you build a good relationship with a solid AD, over years or decades of future collecting it could end up saving you a grip of money if you acquire everything at retail after that.

Plus, you’re guaranteed it’s 100% authentic per Rolex Service Center and not stolen according to their internal registry.

Let us know what you decide!

2014 for around $12K. The other was 2019 for 16-17k which seems high.

Congratulations! Well done. Like it more than the two-tone.

I would go for the GMT. It has a little pop of green colour which is great.

The GMT was sold by the time I made a decision but I'm happy I waited as I got a good deal on this Sub and it's beautiful. Love it.

Lol - I wonder how many people will keep answering the original question without realising you bought secret option number 3.

Solid choice - congrats and wear it in good health!

Both are stellar choices, IMHO. I chose to go stainless steel for my first (and only) Sub. If you like TT, the 116613LN is a gem.

Both watches are of good quality; it's just a matter of how much you're willing to pay above their actual value.

Rolex 116613LN Submariner 18K/SS or the Rolex 116710LN GMT Master II. Love the classic black GMT discontinued however, love the little flashier sub. THoughts? Both are 2019 around the $16-$17k
Try some on if you can, I thought I wanted a GMT, but I tried one on and thought it looked too small on my wrist, same with the Sub, then when I tried a DSSD 44mm, I was much happier, both were on my "want list"....So I got the DSSD and its now my daily driver.
You can never go wrong trying one on, you might be surprised and it may change your whole outlook.
