First Watch. Thoughts

Been checking out the trusted sellers section and leaning towards these two. This would be my first rolex.

Rolex 116613LN Submariner 18K/SS or the Rolex 116710LN GMT Master II. Love the classic black GMT discontinued however, love the little flashier sub. THoughts? Both are 2019 around the $16-$17k

Both would make a heck of a first watch.

I have that GMT and am considering the TT Sub. As a first watch, I’d lean towards the GMT.

My first sub was bought preowned with box and papers. It was a TT serti sub with diamonds and blue saphires on the dial and I wore it daily until I got my 166710LN in sept 2009. I just had the gmt serviced and it is my daily wear. both are more sporty than dressy, even the TT sub. That said, id feel comfortable wearing either with whatever I wanted. Afterall, its a rolex. Good lucj with whatever you decide. You cant go wrong.

Between those two, I'd lean toward the GMT because it's less loud, especially for your first watch. Though, not sure if you want the flashy factor, because that's fine too.

You can’t go wrong with either of these two. Buy the one you truly like best over opinions found here.

Would you find the gmt function useful? If not, the sub is probably the way to go if you already prefer the subs aesthetics better . You’ll also pay less of a premium over retail for the TT sub and it has the very handy glidelock clasp. Rolex really should have included that in the gmt’s as well.

Submariner always the first to start the collection, you can add a GMT later to expand your lineup

You've never owned a watch before?!

Pick up a Seiko 5 and wear it for a few months to see if you like wearing a watch at all. (They're great watches, but if you realize that you actually don't have use for a watch, you won't have dumped Rolex money to do so.)

Between those two I’d be all over the GMT however the Sub would be more of a statement. It all depends on what you want to say I guess.

I'd go for the Sub it really is such a nice piece, I have the 126613LB and it really pops. I only waited 8 weeks from registering an interest at a local independent AD and I have no purchase history with them either so maybe worth looking for a new one.

It depends on your personal style - I wouldn’t hesitate with the GMT. It has all the functionality you ever need and I like the black on black as a daily wearer/ first Rolex as it’s a bit more understated.

GMT. Great first watch, with all the functionality and versatility you will ever need. Could very well be a one and done or a journey starter. Was the latter for me.

Welcome! Either would make a great first or only watch. If you want a little more flash then the Sub ticks all the boxes.

I would find a SS Submariner-C ND. Could be a cornerstone of any collection and very wearable. The Glide Lock clasp will ensure a proper fit every day and if a Rolex can actually be non-flashy this one works.

Sub as I've no use for the GMT complication and find setting the date on the GMTs annoying. Also I'm a water person and like the better depth rating of the Subs. I also find the Subs appearance more appealing!!! Good luck with your search!!!

I’ve seen another 2014 GMT in excellent condition form another trusted seller here for 12.9k. Any worries buying a later model 2014 watch as long as condition is good? Takuya Rolex 116710LN GMT MASTER II STEEL BLACK CERAMIC BEZEL 2014 BOXES CARD

When my collection was growing I got a Sub date long before my first GMT Master, although I actually prefer the GMT Master and I use its functionality more than I do a diver. Having said that, I love them both enough to own both. I expect that in time you will end up with both of them.
