I initially thought my 34mm Date with oyster bracelet was too bulky and too heavy. Especially compared to my 31mm with jubilee bracelet.

But I have gotten used to it. It looks like a good casual watch. Actually my arm feels funny without a watch now.

No problems with the steel or two-tone ones. Tried an all gold one on in store last year and felt it was a bit on the heavy side (Skydweller). Wasn't for me.

I have always been very aware of the weight of watches as I work all day with my hands. It's actually not that easy to find out the weight of many watches as it's not usually listed in the specs. Most buyers don't seem to care.
I chose 14060M as my first Rolex partly because it is 124g compared to 135g of the 16610 date model and over 150g of most of the newer ceramic models. Remove the bracelet and go Nato and my sub is 75 g or so..you don't know it's there! I now also have a 158g Explorer II though so it has made me realise that when a watch has great design and balance and it properly fitted to you then the weight is way less important than I first thought so now I'm hunting a ceramic Bluesy..heavier again! Bring it on!

Funny, when I first started looking at watches I didn't understand all the devotees and their passion for them. The first time I put on a heavy watch, to my limited mind, it felt substantial and the lightbulb went off. I don't think I could spend real money on a lighter watch. Intellectually I realize how stupid this is, but I like the heft.

Didn't you have a RG Daytona and a Hulk before? Did you find them too heavy when you first bought them? I am sure you didn't sell them because they were too heavy, correct?
You will get used to the weight in no time.

No I think there's a size for everyone - from the 36mm Datejusts to the 39mm Exp 1, to the 40mm GMTs, Daytonas, Subs, YMs, DJ2s and Milgauss to 42mm for the Exp 2, 43mm for the Deepsea and 44mm for the YM2.

Rolex has covered most size bases.

Pretty sure with all watches made from precious metals the immediate difference to identical SS version is how much heavier they feel.

Seriously though, I cant imagine why anyone ever complaints about watch weight. It might feel RELATIVELY heavy or light compared to smth else, but come on, 200 grams is heavy? I doubt. Just getting used to.

I wear my watch on NATO and there it feels light - and on bracelet it is heavy. However it doesnt cause me discomfort or anything of course.

You can pick a thread by the number of posts within 24 hours to determine the level of emotion generated. I have never noticed the weight of my watch before and now I cant get it out of my head or hand..... damn ALS is so heavy........might have to slot the Patek on tomorrow certainly the lightest in my family.

The feeling of weight goes away for me after awhile. Wearing it on the other wrist definitely makes it feel quite heavy but not on my regular side.

Batman, Hulk, Daytona in RG on strap and sub c LN, no at the time I didn't find them heavy, but after being used to the lightness and comfort of Patek when I put on a Rolex then it just seems too heavy for me and uncomfortable also, but I think you can't beat the comfort of a 5712 or a 5726, well maybe there is one which is even more comfortable from what I hear and it's the next one I plan to acquire, the 5167R, also very thin and light, even if it's RG, but seems incredibly comfortable due to the rubber strap...

A Swatch will be even lighter than your Pateks. ;-)

Try the Breitling Chrono Super Ocean and then check if the Rolex seems heavy. For me not only is it (relatively) light but also ... small. I'd prefer a diameter of 42/44 mm (I know DeepSea is 44mm but it's the exception - usually they're 40mm or less).

On the other hand 40mm is - I think - the ideal size for an all-around classic watch. Perhaps now the fashion calls for bigger watches but in the past it used to be quite smaller (and most classic watches are below 40mm). So the ideal watch - for me - should neither be too big nor too small. 40mm is perfect.

Rolex makes watches for every taste. Some models being tool watches are thicker than the rest of Oyster models. I don't think Rolex is intended to built giant size watches otherwise we could see D DIAL DEEP SEA in bigger case or diameter.
My biggest yet heaviest Rolex is SS YM II and it only weights 176 grams with one link removed

I have had the modern GMT, the new Explorer II, and I now have neither, due in part to a lack of comfort. I just couldn't get the right fit and feel from these, no matter how much I adjusted the watch. I could wear the watch long enough to forget about it, butt hen it would stick or shift to an awkward position and I'd be back where I started. I now have a vintage Sub (5513) and Explorer (1016). I wear my Sub on a leather strap (partly due to the added comfort) and the Explorer on a oyster bracelet. It's such a small watch, the ss bracelet works and is comfortable. This said, I admit I am ocd about the feel of a watch, but I agree large, this watches are not the most comfortable. Btw, I just bought my first Patek (5711) and can't wait to get it--everything I've seen indicates it is one of the most comfortable watches you can buy. The case and bracelet are wide and not thick--so the weight is dispersed like a sports car, making is stable on the wrist--that's my theory anyway!

Well for 20 years I was like you and liked the heft, but that was before getting a Patek

Well I sold them because they weren't getting any wrist time, when I was putting one on after 30 minutes I was thinking "why am I wearing this uncomfortable watch when my PP are so comfy?"

Even a light watch takes getting used to, when I got my 5712 I had to get used to the extra thin and light factors for a few days, really felt strange at first not to feel the watch, but after a few days you realize how great it is

I'd say you have two options in Rolex world:

A 5-digit professional model (16710 GMT-II or 16570 EXP-II) or a 6-digit 36mm DJ. The 116200 on oyster with domed bezel is a very light, comfortable everyday watch, but still gives you aspects you want from a professional Rolex (WR, durability, etc). Even better, it costs about the same as a routine service on your PP.

I know the trend is now to bigger and bigger watches but I for one prefer thinner and lighter pieces, after 5 minutes I forget that I'm wearing one of mine because the weight is light and the comfort is incredible.

Does anyone else here feel that the Rolex modern pieces are a little too big and heavy?
Well is not being bigger and heavier always better, after reading the millions of posts on this forum I was made to believe this was so.Or perhaps this only appliers to the bigger heavier is always better OCD watch brigade.Or are we going to see a new trend where bigger heavier is not always better, much like I have been stating on forum for the past ten years.

I'm with you. Bigger does not automatically equal better. I can see absolutely no functional reason for Rolex to double the thickness of the lugs from the 16610/16710 to the 116610/116710. Likewise the new 42MM models are bigger simply for the sake of being bigger. I, for one, am quite happy to enjoy a much cheaper selection of the 5-digit professional models which feel much lighter and more comfortable, particularly when going for a run or a long swim.
