I now feel kind of hurt that I actually bothered to give a heartfelt, introspective opinion. Serves me right. Geez! I guess I took the bait as I am simply too gullible.

I find very few people notice a nice time piece. Who really cares. Wear it because you like it. Every now and then you will come across another watch enthusiast and have a fun conversation.

Start a watch club.
The watch below is what I wore to college. It actually did get noticed. Taken from the internet

Is that why you bought your Rolex?
It's probably better that they don't notice....those that do probably want to snatch it from you. |

They notice. They are just being polite in not calling you pompus for wearing a Rolex to school.

This is funny because as a college student myself who does not yet have a Crown on his wrist, I notice and compliment those rare Rolexes I see on other students. Usually makes for a good conversation starter.

Truthfully, my thoughts are that the OP would much better not focusing on Rolexes and spending their time studying and not living in a fools paradise (perhaps thinking they are more than they really are). Judging from the writing style demonstrated by the OP, a few course in English would be a good place to start.

Grady, with a watch like that in college, I'll bet that your friends were Dr. Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz and Raj Kootrappali.

I live in SF and have noticed most people under 30 don't even wear a watch. We have so many of those < 30 apple, google, twitter that can easily afford to wear a nice watch but don't. I really hope Swiss mechanicals don't die in the next 10 to 20 years.

And the thread, unlike the OP had developed some merit... It does prove that on a watch forum we have way too much time on our hands.

I remember playing with the thing all the time. Even stored phone numbers. Sadly, the numeric pad panel came off and then broke. :(

When I was in college in '82 no one noticed your watch even though everyone of course had one.
In '82 only older rich guys seemed to have Rolex's... & back then they DID notice! |

For grad school I bought a slightly fancier Casio calculator databank. After grad school I decided to go analog and in time I started to accumulate watches and that led to this hopeless condition we call WISism. 😂 Quote:

A nice watch is an extreme luxury for most college kids. I bet 99% of your campus wouldn't know it was a Rolex unless you verbally told them or they saw the dial up-close.
It's way more badass to see that old guy drooling over your watch at the stoplight anyways. |
