I have the 6 digit smurf + 16710 and, frankly, if I had to give up one of them, it would be the smurf. Why?

1. 16710 is a more pleasing aesthetic
2. 16710 is 3 watches in one: black, coke, pepsi
3. 16710 is 5 watches in one: jubilee and oyster

Literally, if you are a one watch guy, swap the ubiquitous black sub for the multi-look watch of this century.

The investment to get a jubilee is minor and, three OEM bezels can be had for 6-700 bucks if you’re patient and shop around. Once you acquire all these accessories, you’ll have a different looking watch whenever you wish.

My 2 cents
Great points and well said, but it would actually be 6 watches = (3x2).

Subc is my least fav sub model all time. Oddly proportioned. Chrome bezel. Your listed reasons are, well... reasonable. Pepsi is cooler though.

I'd keep the Sub. Unless you really need the GMT function.

I love the GMT function and it grows on you fast. In reality, my iPhone can go grab whatever time I need but the GMT is doing it old school, just like it was intended. I must be getting sentimental! As a matter of curiosity, how deep do you dive?

Ultimately, my little voice tells me that this decision will only ever be made by you emotionally. Make a knowing that’s what it’s going to be. Safe and brave horizons my fellow traveler.

As someone who has actually been in this exact same situation, I went from Sub (14060) to GMT (16710) with zero regrets. That was 2 years ago.

Whether you keep, trade or add, you really can't go wrong. But I know that for me personally the switch to GMT was a move that made me wish I had simply started with a GMT in the first place.

I was in the same position. I saw the coke on a plane and had to have it. You will miss the glidelock. In my opinion, add the coke, keep the sub.

I've had a Kermit and coke. I'd do coke any day. Not that common and that wine red against black is quite a looker

I feel like, and this is my own thought based on nothing more than pre-existing models, that the black GMT that was discontinued will return as a Coke.

I have nothing to back that up other than if the rumors are true regarding GMT's moving to bi-colored bezels, it would make sense to drop a black for a multi-color black. This could mean black/green, black/red, black/yellow, .etc - I just have this feeling it means black/red.

Definitely wouldn't be basing any future purchasing decisions on a rumor, just wanted to share my thoughts.

The decision you have is a difficult one, and I'd answer it by asking myself which watch I would regret not buying/keeping. For instance, even if I loved the SubC, if I had an opportunity to purchase a SS Daytona with white face, I'd trade + cash in a heartbeat because I know that even though both watches are awesome, the Daytona pulls me in.

Does the Coke do that? Would you regret never getting a chance to buy one? If so, that's your answer. Unless your Sub can't be replaced for sentimental value, it seems pretty obvious you prefer the Coke.

From experience you will be pleasantly surprised by the charm of this older watch. Choose the Coke, enjoy.

agree completely! add the coke (or maybe a polar 16570 for a lot cheaper) but trading your subc for it would be a MASSIVE downgrade.

I'm inclined to agree with this. While the coke is a very cool watch, and the possibility of swapping out bezels for different looks is intriguing, I think the drop down in overall quality (or at least feeling of quality) from the 6 digit watch to the 5 digit watch would leave you a bit disappointed.

If you want to add a 5 digit GMT to your collection, I would strongly consider a polar exp. II or even a black dial exp. II. You can get an excellent condition 16570 for $5,500 - 6,000 and have a really great, under-the-radar GMT.

This makes perfect sense to me hashed out, I have a 14060M that I want to swap for a 16710 or a ceramic no-date and am at an impasse
