16610 running -10/day on first day of ownership
Hi,
I recently purchased a mint condition used 16610 (u serial) from a reputable dealer and had it authenticated today. I see that the watch has lost 10 seconds on its first day. Should I be concerned or is there any reason to let it settle and continue to track the accuracy? |

Personally I do prefer that my Sub 14060 runs slightly fast. But a few seconds fast or slow is perfectly OK, after all its a mechanical watch! Check it for a couple of weeks after giving it a full manual wind (30-40 turns, and you can not over wind it). If its time keeping still bothers you any competent Rolex AD (in my experience!) will be able to quickly regulate it to run within COSC -4/+6 seconds. Otherwise enjoy it and wear it in health, its a great watch!

Did he tell you or did you ask how it was keeping time? Did he say it was serviced or did it have any service history?

I personally don't care about seconds, especially with an older watch. But if you do care about such things, track it and see if it is stable or an anomaly.

U serial puts you around 1998. Did they provide any service history on this 20 year old watch? If not, then me personally, I’d send it in to RSC for a full servicing. Also, you mentioned “mint”. Was it NOS, any signs of wear, polishing? Pics?

It is an older watch that might need service.

Unfortunately my due diligence before the purchase was mostly around the authenticity of the watch, I completely forgot to ask about accuracy or service history. I have just followed up with them.
Is there any threshold of deviation in seconds that should be worrisome? As in should immediately have it serviced? |

How did you assess that it was truly off by 10 seconds the first day, and is that continuing?

When buying a watch that old without known service history it's never a bad idea to factor in the cost of service when comparing watches. |

I first assessed the accuracy using time, gov but then downloaded WatchTracker after noticing the -10 after the first day. It looks to be on track for another -10 today.
Does watch regulation require it to be sent in to RSC? |
