Sbga407 curiosity

Not going to lie. I’m very interested in the “blue snowflake” or as I prefer by ref numbers, the sbga407. Does anyone here have one and give their thoughts? I like on the stock strap, but I believe the lug width is 19mm? Thinking if I pick one up I could put one of my existing GS bracelets on it? What are everyone’s thoughts on putting a bracelet on it? Or has anyone else done this yet?

I would love to somehow get a 387, but I’m not willing to fork out the asking prices. I can get a very nice price at my ad for the 407. Also I’ve seen the 407 at my ad which I like whereas I haven’t seen the 387 in the flesh really.

I saw this in person. It's more of a cotton candy blue than a frost blue of the 387.

Good luck. I've learned in my brief watch collecting stint, never get the "Close" watch... you'll end up selling it for the REAL watch later anyway.

One guy at one of my wife's work functions had a blue snowflake and I have handled it a couple of times in store.

From those observations comparing it side-by-side with my kirazuri, the blue snowflake is a flatter dial with less colour range and texture depth than the kirazuri. The snowflake appears quite blue in low/artificial/indoor lighting and doesn't really change much in sunlight. The kirazuri is very muted in low to indoor lighting then pops much more blue in sunlight.

There's more to it than the dial too. The kirazuri has the 44GS case which is damn near the pinnacle of stainless steel watchmaking IMHO. Your AD would have some 44GS cases for you to look at - the lines and polish are stunning. The blue snowflake case is of course elegant but a bit more conventional and probably not quite so spectacular on bracelet as the 44GS.

As SN13 said, I'd saddle up and hunt down the kirazuri at a decent price rather than settle for the blue snowflake. I think if I were settling, I wouldn't go quite so close as the blue snowflake and go for something quite different like a blue cocktail time or something presage-y.

I agree with these sentiments about the 44GS case. It's a very special case and a classic Grand Seiko design cue. I strongly prefer SBGA387. It sounds like you might too.

I just got one very recently. It's a beautiful watch. But it's very dressy, certainly much dressier than the standard Springdrive snowflake so I dont think it will look good on a bracelet. No harm to try though. One thing about this watch, it's super accurate which is expected. It did not even lost one second after 1 week of wearing.

I have a SBGJ201 high beat GMT which i believe is also a version of the 44gs case? I love the thing to death and it has turned into my daily over all of my Rolex and others.

The SBGJ201 is a very attractive watch, and yes it's a 44GS case. Knowing that, I think the SBGA407 would compliment it nicely. An excellent pairing.
