For the life of me I can’t understand this “should I buy the Hulk or Batman”, my AD has a Milguass, should I buy it?
How the hell should I know, lols, should you? Do you need the GMT function, do you even like Rolex watches....

I can understand research as you try to decide between a Submariner Date and a SD43. So you ask, does this look big/small. Is the SD43 uncomfortable and does the bezel look too busy in person. Or does the ring lock text really stand out on the Deepsea....
These watches aren’t readily available at ADs so it’s fair to ask about the watch as you decide. But when you say, I have a Submariner and a BLNR, what should I get for a three watch collection?...how the heck would I know. I know what I’d like to buy and why. No one coached me on my car purchase or which house to buy.

Next time someone asks about a watch I’m going to just have two default answers, yes get it and why the Rainbow Daytona of course.
Ex. My ad has a Milguass, an Explorer 2 polar and a YM rose gold oyster flex, which should I buy. Answer, yes.
I’m looking at a Pelagos or a Deepsea, which one should I buy, and better as an investment?
Answer, get the Rainbow Daytona.

I don’t know why this is so hard and people need strangers approval. This is simply about which watch I like and whether I have the money for it, simple.
No money no watch. I buy the watch I like based on the amount of money I have for it, simple.
I have $10k, get the Sub, need a GMT, get the BLNR, prefer the BLRO, I like either. Like the Daytona, save more, want it today/now, save more and pay double, want gold, save more more. This stuff is too easy, like going to Walmart. Can’t save that much, can’t buy it lols, you teach children this in toys stores when they’re crying and throwing tantrums in the toy section.

Imagine getting a response as follows...

“Having owned both, the BLNR got a lot more wrist time as the colouring of the Hulk meant it didn’t go with every outfit. The Hulk also wore a little big on me, despite being the same 40mm as the BLNR”

I’d find that response useful I think?

1. Drama queens. More and more people are them today. I blame the past 30 years of Hollywood movies, and their Generation X parents. Sorry, but you are not unique and definitely not amazing, no matter what Sex and the City or daytime talkshows say.
2.Rich people who find no feedback from within their immediate circles. They spent $20-50k on a Rolex, and their colleagues, relatives and neighbors don't give a shit, OR they are too ashamed to share with them. However, they crave validation, so they join a forum.

If for someone this sounds perfectly reasonable, would you consider this series of questions normal and reasonable -
"Should I buy a green car, a blue car, or a silver-colored car? One is a sedan, the other a minivan, and a third is a coupe. Also, my dealer only has yellow pickup, but I came in looking for a yellow convertible. Should I go for the pickup then? What do you think?"

These days its not about passion or anything. Its about a few things

1) Clout
2) Insta fame
3) Acting like a baller when I really dont even have $10k spare cash in my bank account.

Wow. Some posts here are really castigating other members for seeking input. People like to receive input because they realize they haven't thought of everything regarding a watch they are considering buying. The opinions of others may cause one to look at a color/feature/design in a different way than they had before. I already know my opinion, I like to hear others' opinions on the matter. Then I will consider them and either incorporate them into my opinion or throw them aside. Someone just may have an intestine point that I hadn't considered.

I look at these "which one" and "should I" threads as just people excited about a potential purchase and looking to share that excitement. Maybe also looking to the other crack addicts for validation that it's okay to take a hit. I'm amazed at how passionate some people are about subjective things. My all time favorite was when someone called a YG watch "vulgar." Nearly choked on my coffee.

Yeah, so those threads are kinda frivolous. I feel like the stuff that keeps me interested here is 1) learning about the brand 2) picking up technical specs 3) keeping tabs on the Rolex market 4) figuring out the shifting sands of the next plunge

Great read. I just ran through another post where OP was asking which one he should get, YG Daytona or YG DD, both with champagne dial.

As has been pointed out, it’s hard to put 2 watches side by side and physically compare. There were some mentions of champagne dial being less legible than other colors, etc.

I agree that’s it’s almost impossible to give valuable input without knowing the persons style and state. I also know it’s hard to lay out that much cash when you’ve not held the watch and seen it in person, in different lighting conditions etc. Some of us can easily trade around and try many until we find what we like. But for others, it’s a real commitment. My mind also goes to the aspect that the posters are excited, don’t know anyone who is as excited as them, and just want input from enthusiasts like us. Their wife or significant other certainly is not as excited as us, from my experience! What’s really in their mind (ex. I’m gonna be a Baller!), well we just won’t know that.

But if the question is asked properly, I don’t mind adding input when I think it could help them consider a watch. Most times, TRF already has covered my points more than once, so I won’t post mine.

I have a lot of respect for folks on here; and I appreciate Steve, the mods, TS, and pledge members who contribute to keep the platform up. We have a wide array of opinions. Gives us something fun to read. Happy Wednesday!

Well said. I also love the comment the a YG Daytona is somehow Vulgar?!
I think a beautiful shiny Rolex watch with a metal chain wrapped around it is really vulgar. But to each his own right...

It’s off the rails for this and many other reasons.

This isn’t complicated stuff here. I would think toilet training might even be more difficult than this.

It went from “what Rolex will increase in value the most?” To now “What model does everyone like the most X or Y?” Is this a odd way of seeking people’s approval or validation of some kind to know what watch to buy???
Why would anyone care what model other people like as their background and taste is meaningless.

I think that most of the time, the questions are not really about tastes, but rather a way of looking for advice.

SS Rolex models are hard to come by, and while most have seen sedans, minivans and coupes in the street, most have never seen in real life the watch they're looking to buy.

I have never seen any SubLV, BLRO, BLNR or DaytonaC in real life. If I asked sth like : "I like the LV, but what do you think, and which one do you prefer ?", it'll rather a mean of letting people express on how they feel about the watch, and maybe a few off-track opinions or interesting remarks will emerge.

The real issue imho are the advice given by ppl who have never owned nor seen the watch itself

isnt the point of a forum an exchange of information, knowledge, and experience between a community of like-minded/interested folks?

not sure we want to be in the business of judging where people are on the spectrum of "i need advice" to "i need approval of others"

What's funny to me is how the "Worm Turns"! When I bought both my 116610 LV Hulk, and my 116600 Seadweller, they both were relatively unpopular references with lots of criticsism about being to green, or to thick...etc.! In each case I was easily able to buy NIB w/out tax, and at reduced pricing, because they were not getting a lot of love, yet I knew I liked them the second I saw them in the metal! Admittedly, when I purchased the SDC4k, I owned an 116610 LN as well as an 16610 LN which I held for a while so as I would be able to figure out over time what watch I gravitated to. Ultimately being in a position to switch between these watches, I found myself continuing to gravitate to the 116600 SDC4k over the 2 other black Sub's, and well beyond the honeymoon period. Thus, ultimately I thinned the herd of those 2 watches via Tony of Just Rolexes! Buy the watch that you like on your wrist, and you will find that others like it on you as well!
