IMHO there is definitely a conflict within "Seiko".
It's hard to offer these under the same brand. Watches like this: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/s...=BRAND%3DSeiko VS https://shop.topperjewelers.com/prod...g-drive-snr031 The general public has the perception of Seiko as something you get your dad from Macy's. Inexpensive, reasonably classy. Not Trash. Grand Seiko is for the enthusiast.... But where will the non-GS references that carry 25X price tags from the Macy's Black Friday specials be positioned? It's hard to go upscale and exclusive when watches carrying the same brand are low tier and ubiquitous. Even the Seiko boutiques are going to ONLY carry GS next year, so even they are separating themselves further from SEIKO. |
