Trying to buy a GMT MASTER II or Submariner

Hello all. I am new here. I have a DateJust that I got in 2015. I am now looking to get myself a GMT MASTER II or Submariner. However, I have called many ADs in a few countries and they are not taking orders. I am willing to pay upfront if I can go on a waiting list.

Can you guys please help me? What is the way to get on the waiting list?

Welcome to the forum, and not to be rude but Good luck. It seems like everyone, everywhere wants a sub or a gmt. There’s no trick or rule to getting on the list and at that point keep in mind there’s probably tens if not hundreds and of people in front of you. You could try going in and talking to them in hopes you get the watch or buy from gray market with no wait time but at a premium.

In UK it is impossible really unless you build a relationship which takes time and it is still uncertain, best to save a bit more and go grey on the Subc.

I would visit some ADs and strike up a conversation with them and see where that leads. You may get on the list, you may not. The "waiting list" often is not a real list, it is just a query of people interested in a specific piece. And depending on the AD, sometimes you get bumped when a bigger fish comes in and spends money. It is really all a game right now.

If you want the watch tomorrow, and you are willing to pay the premium, I would go for the grey market. We have a lot of great dealers here (and some in the UK) and you can buy with confidence when you check the Buyers/Sellers Who's Who.

They will put you on a list
Should get a sub in 6-9 months or a CHNR GMT in a year
Pepsi or batman. You will need the luck of the gods

Go stop and see them in person is the best way but even then, without a purchase history, your chances at getting a desired piece right now are pretty slim.

Yes, I’ll help. Go 5 digit and get a far more classically proportioned watch, fat more versatile (gmt bezels can be swapped) and far less blingy.

Serious question here, but do you think a 5 digit GMT is worth over $10k? It’s what they seem to run at but I struggle to see how they’re worth it (market forces aside).

No. There are literally thousands out there and the prices should be inline with a 5 digit sub and they are not. However, given that the 6 digit cannot be had for MSRP, I would rather pay 12-13 grand for a 5 digit compared with 15-16 for the 6 digit.
