I actually learned a couple of things from the thread. Keep in mind, though some are helpful, many on the forum enjoy judging. Personally I could careless if you keep the stickers, take them off, chew on them or wear the same underwear for 6 straight days. Whatever floats your boat, rock on. Thanks for the thread because there were a couple of pearls of wisdom.

I’d wear it in the shower to easily wash it with soap and water daily. I’d take the stickers off too because I’d want to think of it as a metal watch and not a plastic one.

Just wash it regularly, wipe it with a microfiber cloth and you're good to go |

OP, props to you for replying to everyone and not letting this thread turn into another sticker bashing thread. Enjoy your watch and looking forward to pics!

I always smash my watch on something when its brand new then i never seem to do it again. Cant bring myself to keep any stickers visible to anyone else on though. its a bridge too far. Thats my rule. works well although i do usually take all the stickers off right away, but i kept the clasp ones on the pt daytona the two weeks

HI OP.
Make sure that the crown is screwed down before you get it under the mixer tap.

If I bought a 6 year-old watch from someone else I would send it in for service. Too soon? Maybe. But do you truly know? From that point on it's your watch and you know how it's been treated.
I would not send the watch to RSC just for a cleaning. Our watches seem to be going up in value, why not take the time and expense to make sure they are working correctly? Like a nice sports car where you drive it like you stole it, wear the watch and enjoy it. |

Up here in Alaska, I hike to the glacier to get the most pure water on earth; I then warm the water on the woodstove to a balmy 120 degrees. I then let it cool for four minutes, add a handful of black spruce tips and birch bark, and proceed to let it soak in this melange for ten minutes. Afterward, I dry it in my sled-dog's thick, down-like fur; this is like nature's best sponge and promptly powder with ground up fireweed flowers. At night, it sleeps outside under the aurora borealis and fresh mountain air.

its true though. the majority of the big scratches on all my watches happened within the first couple weeks. I have no idea why i got this one on my AP on the second day.... nothing for the following 3+ years. The pic is from after 3 years of wear with that one big scratch still there

Update here are the after pics I had some time today and cleaned it up used some dish soap and a soft brush.
Honestly good feeling, it feels like a whole new watch. Thanks for the advice guys. I managed to keep one or two stickers on ones that arent direct contact to my skin (for those germophobes) It looks pretty new for a 2013 now that I gave it a bath and removed the stickers not a scratch yet |

Was just thinking about what could have accumulated in and around the stickers from the previous owner... He could have been anyone, up to anything - doesn't bear thinking about...
He could have been a latex-intolerant amateur artificial-insemination expert with a predisposition for swine. A sloppy gloveless volunteer at a VD clinic, who knows... Word to the wise, peel them off and give it a good soak in warm soapy water, maybe use a soft toothbrush to get between the links, then rinse it, dry it, put it on and don't give another thought to the previous owner's residual gunk... Enjoy! Now's it's clean yours...!!! |
