116710LN service
I recently purchased a GMT that was bought in 2011 by a collector. It has never been worn. The jeweler would like to service it in house by a Rolex certified technician.
My question to you is: 1. Should I have them service it? 2. Should I just have them do a pressure test? 3. Can you harm a watch that has nothing wrong with it? Thank you |

1. See how it's keeping time. If it's doing well, I wouldn't service it.
2. Probably 3. Unlikely |

I wouldn't have it serviced unless there was an issue. I would have it pressure tested though.

By serving or just pressure testing they will need to remove the manufacturing stickers right?

I would only have them service the watch if there is an issue. Otherwise, leave it alone. No need to fix what is not broken.

If you planning on keeping it I would remove the stickers and enjoy wearing it. If you plan on swimming with it I would have it pressure tested. If it doesnt keep good time I would have it serviced. The watches at service get any internal parts that are not good replaced at no extra cost if you use a RSC.

If it was never worn, then I can't imagine it needs to be serviced. Monitor it. If it's within COSC standards I wouldn't service it.

No why ? Ask the shop to give you a voucher for the first service

2. Nothing wrong with a pressure check. Seals can take a set or be out of place. 3. You cannot harm a watch by servicing it if it is done properly. Personally, I would not buy a watch a decade old that has "never been worn" unless I was never going to wear it, unless there is no premium tacked on. Wear it for a couple of days and that premium would be out the window.

They want to service it in-house rather than send it out to a RSC?
Seems odd.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you everyone. I was debating keeping it locked up for 5 years or enjoy it. I’ve decided to wear it. It’s a beautiful watch and it shouldn’t sit in a safe for years.
Thanks again. |
