Recommendations where to stay at Paradise Island w/ kids.

Hi,

The wife and I are looking at possible vacation spots for 2020. We are tired of Disney, Universal, & a few local popular places. The kids are 7 and 10.

We saw a few Costco Ads for Bahamas / Paradise Island. I assume some TRF members have stayed there with kids of similar ages?

My wife heard The Reef is a nice place to stay. I know everything is crazy expensive. Seems water parks are the main attractions for kids.

Anyone have recommendations, tips, etc... ?

Thanks and happy new year.

I've been to Atlantis 3 times, by far my favorite place to vacation and I've been to quite a few....Hawaii, Turks, Costa Rica, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Bahamas, Cayman, Gulf Coast, etc. It's fairly expensive but very nice and a ton of nice restaurants. The casino there is very nice and big as well.

Thanks. Which hotel do you recommend? Do you travel there with kids?

We stayed at Atlantis. Haven't taken my kids yet since they are too young, but will be taking them in a year or two. On the property we've stayed at Beach tower, Coral tower, and the Cove which is adults only.

Atlantis is good for kids with water slides and floats. Check out dolphin and sea lion experiences as well. Cove is nicest of hotels in Atlantis. It has adults only pool although there are plenty of kids in hotel. Atlantis is very spread out so be prepared to do a lot of walking. There is a free shuttle between hotels within Atlantis. Reef is closer to marina (shopping, restaurants).

Your wife heard right about cost - be prepared to pay high prices for everything. Dinner buffets are about $70 per person. However, if you walk to marina there are pizza and burger places which are fine and a lot cheaper. Also, check weather averages if you are going in winter. Climate is more like South Florida than rest of Caribbean.

Spent a week in a suite at The Reef that opened right onto a patio off the beach.
Wonderful time. I love Atlantis.

Been there twice. It’s a blast with kids! Stayed at the Reef both times. Kitchen in the room. If you want to lessen the cost of meals have your airport taxi stop at the grocery store in town before driving over to Paradise Island so you can stock up on breakfast and lunch food. There are also decent restaurants in town that are less expensive than the on site restaurants. The on site buffet restaurants kind of sucked IMO. Nobu is your best bet and the Bobby Flay restaurant - Mesa is mostly good. As an Atlantis guest you also have access to the restaurants and facilities at The One And Only property nearby. They filmed a James Bond movie there. A free shuttle bus is provided to get you there and back. It’s definitely worth a dinner reservation.

Winter weather can be warm or chilly, similar to Miami. If you want guaranteed winter warmth I recommend something further south like Grand Cayman, Jamaica or Cancun.
