1958 Rolex Submariner ref. 6536/1 “Small Crown, Orange Patina, Red Triangle”
Up for grabs is a Rolex Submariner
Reference 6536/1 398,xXX serial number circa 1958 production Excellent vintage condition case with thick and even lugs. Clear numbers. No corrosion or pitting. This watch came from the original owner, Victor Lopes who purchased this watch in the early 60’s while service in the US Navy on board of USS Salmon submarine. His initials and last name are engraved lightly on caseback. I was also able to find confirmation of his name crew roaster of USS Salmon here: http://www.hullnumber.com/crew1.php?cm=SS-573. An interesting story he told me was when he got the watch, the sales person claimed it was waterproof and so as a young curious guy, he strapped the watch onto the outside of the submariner before they went down one time just to test it and when they came back up he found the watch perfectly fine and we can see that from original condition of components. Of course, there is no way to confirm or deny this story, and its simply being passed on to the new owner without adding or subtracting any monetary value. The dial is original, with beautiful orange patina on radium and fully intact lume. There is some minor chipping on edge of the dial between 4 and 6, but its not much visible to naked eye. Dial is still very glossy and has correct lighter lume 6 o’clock. Hands are also original, radium with correct white Seconds hand. No relume, no refinish. Bezel and insert are original with factory red triangle at 12. As you know, most of these are replaced or have been taken off to be used on “more expensive” big crown watches. This one is original, as found, and will remain on this watch. Caseback is original, stamped 6536 inside with 1958 date. Outside is lightly engraved with Victor’s initial and full last name. The bracelet did NOT come on this watch for full disclosure. The original one broke long ago and it was worn on generic one. This bracelet is 1950’s Swiss rivet stretchy links with 58 ends. No box or papers. My price is $65,000 shipped within US. I ship via FedEx w/ ParcelPro insurance so international shipments are not an issue. Financing is available via Affirm and PayPal Credit via our website. If you do not like my price, make an offer, do not ask for the best price as the best price for me is the highest.
