No. I for one do not believe the DSSD is in any type of crisis. I have a strange feeling if this watch would have been released 3-5 years ago during the contemporary hey-day of Extreme Premiums over MSRP for years after Rolex released a new watch, the DSSD would still be bringing in top $ and flying out of the cases. These are indeed unparalleled economic times for all of us...every watch Rolex produces has taken a considerable hit when it comes to sales demand & selling price in the last 15 months. Things will get better, but it ain't going to happen in '09 (and probably for most of '10) IMO!

It would be nice to think we would get an SS Subdate, maxi case black ceramic and a TT Blue Subdate with maxi case blue ceramic both with the glidelok clasp.

It would not be good to even think about the price.

I don't know about the price increase, but the rest is, excuse me, bull. Everyone know it's going to be ceramic. What we don't know is when it's coming.

No way your "good source" now what he is talking about when it comes to the 43 mm case and the old clasp. It's pretty obvious the case will be the same as the new WG sub, and the clasp will probably be the new glidelock. If not it will be the GMT IIc clasp. There will be no more new models with the old clasp.

This would not make much sense. The new Sub has been with us for some time in YG and WG. The TT is expected this year, and the SS either this year or next.

Rolex tend to keep models in the catalogue for years on end, so I don't believe that the DSSD will be discontinued after only one year.

I finally managed to spend some 30 minutes with my contact on the phone today. It seems I got the wrong end of the stick yesterday and he confirmed that the new sub will be based on the same case as the GMT, minus the extra hand. He did confirm that the bracelet is planned to be the same as the GMT, but he also thought that pressure could well be exerted and they could move to a glidelock. He also mentioned that the GMT may well get a white face this year. Once again he spoke of the huge price increases that could well be worldwide. Apparently Rolex wants to stop middle men from making money by buying and selling the watches for a profit. The GMTII will be a massive 5,500 GBP, so god knows what that means for the new sub prices. The Deepsea will be 6,300 GBP. Not sure on the others yet.

Now that makes a little more sense to me. I still think all new models should get the Glidelock, but then again I can see them keeping it in just a select few models with a higher MSRP in order to keep the 'balance of powers' correct...gives people a little more pause when they might be on the fence between choosing one over the other.

That price increase is CRAZY (especially considering these economic times)...but then again, I can kind of understand the logic. The economy will not always be this bad, they are obviously looking toward the future. My only thought would be to postpone such an increase...god knows the 'middle men' are not making a killing buying then selling for a profit in this market.

thinking about it a little bit, i have a feeling the new sub will be identical to the new white gold sub but just in stainless with a black dial...... keeping it simple.

I can see the supercase TT Subc 116613 being introduced at Baselfair 2009 and not the S/S version. It should have the Glidelock clasp (pictured below) and NOT the GMT IIc clasp. The S/S will be at Basel fair 2010.

If Rolex SA wants to produce a superior diving watch but with a 40mm case size then make it adjustable, just as it's always been.

The Explorer II is due for a makeover but who knows when.

Ceramic GMT IIc Pepsi/Coke, I'd say 50/50 chance it's going to be displayed at Baselfair.

I can see Rolex making a Platinum/Stainless Yachtmaster in a 44mm case, same as the YM II.

Keep checking the Rolex webpage, they always show a teaser watch just before Baselfair.

I fully expect a TT version of the gold sub we've had for a year.

I'm actually with Paul on this...£5500 for a mass produced divers watch....those BP FFs don't seem so ridiculously priced now.

X2. I can't believe Rolex isn't taking a hit in this world recession just like most every other luxury good manufacturer. I think it would be pure folly to introduce a price increase now. Just my two cents.
