Incoming #2 : 6139 Coke from March 1972

I must admit, I've become kind of disillusioned and bored with the current watch environment; a large portion of this has to do with endless waitlists, "investment" mentality and just what seems like industry malaise to me.

I've owned modern Seikos before, but never anything "vintage". The prospect of owning one was a dichotomy of being simultaneously daunting and exciting. My current disillusionment pushed me over the edge to take the plunge into the vintage side of things.... and I'm so glad I did. There is so much to learn and read. So many great communities with people I would never otherwise run into.

This piece is a 6139-6032 from March of 1972. The "coke" bezel was a JDM only variant, hence the Kanji date I'm too lazy to change. The caliber, 6139B, is a slightly enhanced version of the 6139A, which many consider the first automatic chronograph ever created (and first automatic chrono in space). I was fortunate enough to be able to source one in great working condition with the original Japanese-style bracelet.

Great find. Very cool. Vintage Seiko chronographs like these have so much character that modern, more expensive brands usually seem to lack.

That thing is hot! I love almost every 6139 I see, but that one has to be one of the coolest I’ve seen. Congrats!

And I am 100% with you on the disillusionment thing. No more Rolex buying for me, but I do have a handful of vintage Seikos, including two 6139’s.

Thanks my friend. It's very true, wearing this chrono put a smile on my face; something that didn't happen when wearing more expensive, sterile modern chronos.

Glad I'm not the only one, Haha. The constant jockeying for waitlist positions, negotiating bundles, having to prove your worth to an AD...none of that is fun to me.

Very nice! I'm glad I can join the 6139 club, seems like a cool and passionate community.
