Impressed with new Alpinist!
I just purchased one of the new for 2020 Alpinists (SBDC091) - the classic green dial version, and I must say I am blown away!
I have been wearing the watch 24hrs a day since I received it and set the time. The watch has kept amazingly accurate time, generally running spot-on. I saw it gain one second late the first day - by morning it was back to perfect time. And in the three days since, it will occasionally slow, losing one to three seconds, but by morning, it is back spot-on. I must be sleeping in a position to advance the time. In total, it's never been more than three seconds off, and generally is either one second slow, two seconds slow, or spot-on. I have never had a watch regulated so well. This is all from the initial winding and constant wear. Right now, it's the most accurate watch I own, besting a couple Rolexes and a Speedmaster. The next closest watch is a Seiko SKX which I regulated myself! Consider me impressed with the Alpinist. I hope it will hold this perfect regulation. One question. I don't care for the display case back - the movement isn't really worth looking at, and I understand the case back adds some thickness over the original non-display case cack. Does anyone know if the older SARB017 Alpinist case back will interchange with this new model? Thanks, DeWayne |

Just bought one myself. It's a sharp watch. Keeps great time as you point out and has a massive power reserve.
The one downside, on my cream dial/black strap is the stiffness of the clasp style strap. It's going to take a while to break in...I've tried to speed the process myself by bending the leather. The metal cuff digs a bit as well...due to the clumsiness of the strap. |

Wish it hadn't have the cyclops. Otherwise yes it is a fantastic watch.

Congrats on the new Alpinist!
Seiko straps are often a shortcoming, so I would buy a nice, soft leather/suede strap to replace it. Or, if you are into a bit more bling, get the Strapcode steel/gold jubilee bracelet made just for the Alpinist: https://www.strapcode.com/collection...s-pgd05-p2g064

I have worn mine quite a bit over a month and the strap is not a weakness as it looks very nice and has broken in really nicely
still considering a strapcode but not essential imo

I pick up one recently. It's a great watch. The green dial is unique and really pops.

I had an older version but sold it about 18 months ago. I've been missing it, and I have been intrigued with the new version with cyclops and upgraded movement with increased power reserve. I just ordered a new one. I can't wait to see it!

I agree with the consensus that the strap is a turd. In fact, I ditched it within the first twenty minutes of ownership for a better quality strap I had on hand.
And as to the cyclops, I normally don't like them, which is specifically why I sought out a Submariner with no date. But in this case, I find the Alpinist's cyclops to be trimmer and flatter than Rolex's, with powerful magnification. To me, it resembles a drop of water that has landed on the crystal, not a big ugly lens glued to it. DeWayne |

Does anyone know if the older model sarb017 is the same size as new? I’ve seen conflicting info on the internet some saying 38mm others 39.5 ? Any idea
Thanks in advance Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Marc from Long Island Watch did a side by side video where he measured the old SARB017 and a new green Alpinist. The only size difference is the height/thickness. The new movement is slightly bigger, making the new one a tiny bit taller. Case diameter, lug thickness, and lug to lug is the same. The same Strapcode bracelet fits both models, too.

Really been wanting one of these as well. They seem like such cool and attractive watches. I’ve always loved Seiko as a brand.

Sorry to be a pic whore, but I thought this thread would appreciate this. Rocking a Strapcode jubilee.
