The fat lugs alone are enough to get the 16618. The great thing about yellow gold Rolex is that most are 'special occasion' pieces. Ie someone took a gigantic depreciation hit and kept it virtually mint under a dress cuff a handful of times a year. Happy hunting.

It seems that money isnt an issue. I appreciate 6 k is nothing to sneeze at, even if you have the cash, but if you do simply grab the reference you like best. Good luck and post pics when you get it

Glidelock clasp
Ceramic Bezel
Maxi dial markers.
Lug/case shape

Both are great, good luck in your decision. Hope to post my incoming soon one day as well.
Well I can finally post my incoming. I went with my heart and no regrets. My 16618ln

I have a 16618 black dial. It’s immaculate and one thing I would add that you haven’t addressed, is this issue of bracelet stretch. I’m so worried of this happening I don’t even wear it. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I’m sure all new models including the 116618LB have ceramic pins and I have a few 6 digits I wear the hell out of and never seen any bracelet stretch. Will definitely be adding a 116618LB at some point though. £10,000 extra was why I went for the earlier model.

I don't believe the new models have ceramic pins they are only in the new DD 40. ANY bracelet will stretch if you don't take care of it. BAS has a great thread here today on that showing a worn out 6 digit bracelet (he's a Rolex watchmaker). All I can tell you is I had a 30 year old five digit daydate that had a bracelet with near zero stretch and it will last another 30 years with good care. Bracelet stretch is zero concern for me. YMMV.

Really that’s interesting to know. Yes I did see that post the bracelet looked terrible. I’ve not owned and worn one for long enough from new to be able to judge it for myself.

The newer is the way to go for me. Although I haven’t seen any in the 25k range in a long time. Looks like they’re north of 27k now since the price increase. Buy in my opinion it’s the best yellow gold rolex!

I am very surprised you have no stretch in 30 years of wear I might actually start wearing mine then .. ha

Wait until this spring to see if there is an update to the Sub line. That will affect prices.

If the $$ werent an issue I would choose 116618 over 16618

This comment is spot on. You are very true!

I have a 2015 and it is never polished but immaculate. When you open the clasp hinge up it still feels slightly stiff, which to me shows it has had very minimal use and like you say was a special occasion piece.

This statement is moot now due to the world pandemic. There will be no new models released this year. 2020 is a wash.
